Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork. Blue Cowboys Jerseys .com) - Andrew Chrabascz had 30 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 25 Butler to a 72-68 overtime victory over Marquette on Saturday. Kellen Dunham posted 17 points, Alex Barlow scored 15 with four rebounds and seven assists, and Kameron Woods had 18 rebounds for the Bulldogs (16-6, 6-3 Big East), who have won three straight. Matt Carlino and Duane Wilson each scored 18 points, Luke Fischer added 12 points and six rebounds and Juan Anderson had 12 and seven for the Golden Eagles (10-11, 2-7), who have lost their past five. Wilson opened overtime with a layup, but Chrabascz and Dunham followed with buckets, and Chrabascz hit a pair of free throws with two minutes to play for a 64-60 lead. Marquette cut the deficit to one before Dunham made a pair of free throws for a 70-67 lead with seven seconds left. Butler then immediately fouled Carlino, and after he made one, Dunham followed with two more from the line to seal the victory. The Bulldogs opened the game with the first seven points and continued to lead for much of the first half, but Marquette was able to keep the game close and trailed, 29-26, heading into the break. Opening the second half with a 10-3 run, the Golden Eagles took a 36-32 lead on an Anderson 3-ball 3 1/2 minutes in. An 8-0 run by Marquette gave the team the largest lead of the game at 55-45 with just 4 1/2 minutes to play, but Butler scored the next five points, and a Barlow 3-pointer and Dunham jumper sent the game into overtime tied at 58-58. It has been eleven years, eight months, and 261 days since I played my last CFL game.NEW ORLEANS - Greivis Vasquez, now an integral member of the Raptors second unit, has celebrated wins over each of his three former teams in the last two weeks but Wednesdays victory over the Pelicans brought an even wider smile to the jovial point guards face. He played a big part in Fridays upset win over Memphis - the team that drafted him - a week after defeating the Kings, the team that traded him Toronto. However, this one meant a little more, though it took him a couple minutes to admit it. "I just want to win," Vasquez said, initially downplaying his return to New Orleans after the Raptors overcame an abysmal start to knock off the undermanned Pelicans 107-100. Sandwiched between his brief time in Memphis and Sacramento, Vasquez spent two seasons playing for the New Orleans franchise, formally known as the Hornets. There he enjoyed his best moments, individually, of his career. "This is a very special place for me because they gave me the key, they labelled me a starting point guard, they gave me a chance to showcase my game," said Vasquez, who finished second in most improved voting with the Hornets last season, averaging a career-highs in points (13.9) and assists (9.0) before he was traded to Sacramento this past summer. "I was really angry when they traded me," he admitted. "I know its part of the business so that makes it a little sour when you come back but you always want to beat your former team." With the game in the balance down the stretch, Vasquez looked and played like a scorned man. The Raptors backup point guard, like the rest of his new team, got off to an unexpectedly slow start against a Pelicans club missing its best player, all-star forward and Vasquezs former running mate Anthony Davis. When Vasquez entered the game late in the first quarter, Toronto was already down by seven. That deficit would balloon to 13 a few minutes later, as the Pelicans had their way with the shorthanded Raptors in the paint, getting what they want, when and however they wanted it. The Raptors spent most of the second half clawing back, unable to get over the final hurdle until Vasquez vaulted them over it. With two minutes remaining on the clock and the score knotted up at 94 - Toronto had led for a total of 51 seconds in the game at that point - the former Hornet put the Raptors on top with one of his patented floaters. After misfiring on a three from the corner - one he thought he had made - moments later, Vasquez followed his shot, grabbed the rebound - Torontos 22nd offensive board of the night, a season-best - and covered the lay-up, also getting fouled on the play. After completing the three-point sequence, the Raptors found themselves up by five in a game they badly needed, having dropped their last two. They would not relinquish that lead. "I was blessed enough to be out there at the end of the game," said Vasquez, who scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. "Ive been wishing I could get out there at the end of these games and (Coach) gave me an opportunity." "I had a rough first half and then the second half I was on a mission," he continued. "I like close games. Im not afraid. I will never be afraid. I am the type of player who would risk everything. Thats how I got the (starting job) here in New Orleans. They saw me playing in Memphis against San Antonio and OKC in my rookie year and they thought I was a starting guardd. Cheap Cowboys Jerseys. " The Pelicans missed just three shots in the opening quarter, dropping 32 points on the winded Raptors - playing in the second game of a back-to-back, having lost Tuesday in Atlanta - without Davis, their leading scorer. Shooting over 75 per cent until the latter half of the second quarter, New Orleans torched the visitors on dribble drives in the paint. "I didnt recognize the team in the first quarter," Dwane Casey said. "I told them they were playing like they were in a rec league in the summer time (but) we picked it up." The game began to turn midway through that frame, as the Raptors closed the half on a 23-10 run, hitting nine of their final 10 shots. Despite shooting 36-per-cent in the second half, the Raptors clawed and scraped their way back into the game. DeMar DeRozan carried them offensively, scoring 16 of his game-high 31 points in the second half and the team out-rebounded New Orleans 31-18, including a 14-2 advantage on the offensive boards. Amir Johnson - playing on a sore ankle, again - grabbed eight of his nine rebounds in the second half, Tyler Hansbrough - starting in place of the injured Jonas Valanciunas - pulled down eight of his season-high 13. Simply put, they wanted it more. "This game was about mental toughness, physical toughness more so than skill," said Casey. "No matter who youre playing you have to bring that each and every night and I thought our guys did." Undermanned frontcourt The Raptors were without two of their top three bigs in Valanciunas, who missed his first game of the season with a lower back sprain and Patrick Patterson, still out with an elbow injury. Valanciunas sustained the injury turning to set a screen in the third quarter of Tuesdays loss to the Hawks and was unable to suit up in New Orleans. Although his back is still tight, the Raptors centre underwent treatment before the game and plans to do the same during Thursdays off day, hoping to return on Friday at home to the Thunder. De Colos quiet impact Without attempting a single shot in the first half, only taking one in the game, Nando De Colo helped ignite the Raptors and change the game with his energy, effort and decision making. Logging 14 minutes, the most hes played since he was acquired from San Antonio at the trade deadline, De Colo was credited with sparking his new teams second-quarter run that cut their deficit from 14 to one going into intermission. "Oh man, he was unbelievable," Kyle Lowry said of De Colo, who went scoreless but added two rebounds and three assists. "You cant forget a guy like that. Thats what I always say, were 15 strong. Nando hasnt played that much but tonight he really changed the game, just moving, speed, defence, just his overall effort and knowledge of the game." Nearing a milestone on the road With the victory, the Raptors picked up their 18th road win of the season, most since the 2001-02 campaign and are getting closer to the franchise record of 20 set the year prior. Toronto has seven road games to go and can finish at or above .500 away from home for the first time in team history if they can win at least three of them. Theyll face only one winning team on the road - the Heat - the rest of the way. Wednesdays visit to New Orleans also marked the Raptors final road game against Western Conference opponents, finishing the season 8-7 in those contests. Melbourne, Australia - Swiss star Stan Wawrinka was drawn Friday to open the defense of his Australian Open title against Marsel Ilhan of Turkey. Stitched Detroit Lions Jerseys . Wawrinka, who is seeded fourth, is in the top half of the draw with Serbian Novak Djokovic. The Swiss star outlasted Djokovic in a five-set quarterfinal thriller last year and stunned Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the final to capture his first-ever Grand Slam title. The top-seeded Djokovic, who holds four Australian Open titles, will play his first match against a qualifier. Fridays draw put Wawrinkas countryman and four-time Melbourne winner Roger Federer in the bottom half with Nadal, the 2009 Aussie Open champ. Federer, who is seeded No. 2, will start against Chinese Taipeis Yen-Hsun Lu, and Nadal, the third seed, is scheduled to face Russian Mikhail Youzhny in his first match. Potential quarterfinal matchups are: Djokovic vs. Canadian Milos Raonic, Wawrinka vs. Japans Kei Nishikori, Nadal vs. Czech Tomas Berdych and Federer vs. Great Britains Andy Murray. Also, Russia blanked France 3-0 to face defending champion Sweden or Belarus in the semifinals on Saturday. The Czechs will play Canada or Finland in the semis. Captain Tomas Rolinek answered Brock Nelsons power-play goal in the opening period, and Tomas Hertl, Roman Cervenka and Ondrej Nemec all beat veteran goaltender Tim Thomas on power plays in less than 10 minutes in the middle period. U.S. captain Justin Abdelkader received a five-minute penalty and was ejected for a big hit on forward Vladimir Sobotka, who needed treatment on the ice and did not return to the game. Czech coach Vladimir Ruzicka didnt give details about his injury but said he hoped Sobotka will be available for the semis. Tyler Johnson reduced the deficit to 4-2 with 1:10 left in the game, and added his second 13 seconds later, but it was too late and the U.S., bronze medallists last year, came up short. "I wish they (the goals) would have come a little sooner," Johnson said. Herttl and Cervenka scored from rebounds during Abdelkaders penalty, and Jaromir Jagr set up Nemec to drive a slap shot past Thomas. Cheap Detroit Lions Gear. "We scored three power-plays goals and that decided the game," Jagr said. "But we messed things up in the last two minutes. It was a lesson for the young players, and for those who never experienced that the game ends only after the final whistle." Russia star forward Evgeni Malkin made his presence felt in his second game at the worlds as he scored a power-play goal and added an assist, and Artyom Anisimov and Alexander Kutuzov also scored at Frances expense. "I felt much better today, I had the time to get acclimated," said Malkin, who arrived from the NHL playoffs. "It was a good win but we could have played better and been more effective." Goaltender Sergei Bobrovski stopped 16 shots for the shutout. Another Russian star, forward Alex Ovechkin, returned after he missed a game due to a right leg injury. "It was a bit awkward to skate in the brace," Ovechkin said. "But Ill play without it the next game, and everything will be OK." CHICAGO -- Michael Bourn and the Cleveland Indians are feeling pretty good heading into a big series with Kansas City. Rod Carew Jersey . Bourn had two triples among his three hits, leading Carlos Carrasco and the Indians to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. Cleveland took two of three from scuffling Chicago and has won 11 of 16 overall. It begins a three-game series at the AL Central-leading Royals on Friday night. "The thing is, try not to look too far ahead," Bourn said. "Thats the biggest key -- dont focus on what everybody else is doing every day. All we can control is whats in (the clubhouse), then go play." The Indians trail the Royals by 5 1/2 games, with Detroit in second place. But the Indians have six games left against Kansas City and seven against Detroit. "Were going to fly the same flight," manager Terry Francona said. "Were going to eat the same food. I mean, its exciting. Shoot, (the Royals) are playing great, so we dont need to get ahead of ourselves." Carrasco pitched into the seventh inning for Cleveland, and Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley each singled in a run. Alexei Ramirez had two hits for the White Sox, and John Danks (9-9) pitched six solid innings. Carrasco (6-4) improved to 3-0 with a 0.73 ERA in four starts since he returned to the rotation. The right-hander also began the year as a starter, but then lost three of his first four outings. He struck out seven in 6 2-3 innings while holding the White Sox to one run and four hits. "You know, thats what Ive been doing the last few games -- attack the hitters," Carrasco said. "I just need to do my job and keep the team in there." Cleveland grabbed the lead for good in the sixth. Jose Ramirez led off with a single and stole second. Then he advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Kipnis base hit, giving the Indians a 2-1 advantage. Brantley added an RBI single in the seventh. Danks allowed two runs and five hits while falling to 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in five August starts. Chicago closed to 3-2 on Adam Dunns RBI single in the eighth against Cody Allen, who struck out the next four batters for his 18th save in 19 attempts. "Hes pretty good," Francona said when asked about the closers dominant performance. "You may need to get cable or something to watch him." White Sox rookie Jose Abreu hit a run-scoring single in the third, tying it at 1. It ran his total for the season to 97 RBIs, tied with Miamis Giancarlo Stanton for the major league lead. Cleveland jumped in front when Bourn tripled on the first pitch of the game and scored on Jose Ramirezs grounder. The Indians threatened to take a 3-0 lead in the second, but Alejandro De Aza made a leaping catch above the left-field fence to rob Zach Walters of a two-run homer. LIKE OLD TIMES Francona said he keeps track of the Chicago Cubs when possible. Francona and Cubs executive Theo Epstein were part of two World Series titles with the Red Sox. "I know they have a lot of young kids coming and theyre pretty excited about it," said Francona, who has exchanged voice mails and text messages with Epstein in recent months. "Im not surprised. To anybody who ever asked me about Theo when he came to Chicago, the two things Ive said were, he wont get outworked and hes too smart not to figure it out." SAFE AT HOME Kipnis hit safely for the 25th time in 27 career games at U.S. Cellular Field. The Chicago-area native also escaped serious injury when White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspies heel inadvertently clipped him in the face. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- LeBron James called comments on an audio recording of a man identified as Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling "appalling" and said hes not sure if he would suit up for the remainder of the NBA playoffs if he played for the Clippers. "Theres no room for Donald Sterling in the NBA -- there is no room for him," the Heat forward said Saturday night before a playoff game against the Charlotte Bobcats. The league said Saturday it was investigating the recording posted on TMZs website, calling the comments "disturbing and offensive." James said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should take swift action if the comments are found to be made by Sterling. "Obviously, if the reports are true its unacceptable in our league," James said. "It doesnt matter, white, black or Hispanic -- all across the races its unacceptable. As the commissioner of our league they have to make a stand. They have to be very aggressive with it. Basketball is huge and the playoffs have been unbelievable so far and I hate that something has to come out." In the recording, the man on the recorder questions his girlfriends association with minorities. James said hes not angry about the comments, just disappointed. "I can only imagine if a player came out and said something of that stature what would happen to us as players," James said. BALTIMORE -- Miguel Gonzalez spent time on the disabled list in May with a blister, went a month without a victory after the All-Star break and endured a span late this summer in which he earned only three wins in 11 starts. Haloti Ngata Jersey . If the Baltimore Orioles right-hander wants something positive to ponder this winter, he can think back to his final outing of the 2013 season. Gonzalez pitched seven innings of two-hit ball and Matt Wieters homered as the Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Thursday night. Gonzalez (11-8) allowed one unearned run, struck out five and walked one. The only hits were a single by Kevin Pillar in the third inning and a double by J.P. Arencibia in the seventh. "It was great," Gonzalez said. "I was commanding my fastball and my splitty. I threw enough off-speed for strikes for them swing at and we finished strong." Gonzalez retired 13 straight batters before Arencibias double. It was the first game this season in which Gonzalez didnt give up a run. "That was vintage Miggy," said Wieters, who had an excellent view behind the plate. "When hes on, hes able to mix in his off-speed stuff and locate his fastball. He was able to do that tonight and he actually had a good curveball and good slider to go with his splitty tonight." Despite his injury and second-half slump, Gonzalez worked 171 1-3 innings and closed with a 3.78 ERA over 30 games, 28 of them starts. "I thought it was great," he said. "I had a couple of up and downs, a couple of struggles, but its a part of baseball." Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI for the Orioles, who won the season series 10-9. Baltimore is 13-5 at Camden Yards against the Blue Jays since the start of the 2012 season. After Gonzalez left, Tommy Hunter took over in the eighth and yielded two singles before Brett Lawrie snapped an 0-for-18 skid with an RBI double. Hunter then struck out Moises Sierra and Anthony Gose with runners on second and third. "We had a shot," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "If we get a little contact there, theyre playing the infield back and that gives us that run. At least we tie it anyway. But that didnt happen." Jim Johnson got three outs for his AL-leading 48th save. Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle (12-10) left the game with a bruised right calf after being struck by a line drive off the bat of Steve Pearce. Buehrle allowed three runs and eight hits in 3 1-3 innings, his shortest outing since Sept. 4, 2011, against Detroit. It was Buehrles 429th consecutive start without going on the disabled list. This injury was not serious, and his next start wont come until 2014. "Got six months to recover so it doesnt really matter," he said. "It got me in the calf. I told him to at least let me finish off the inning. He said theres no reason, just get me out of there. Im sure itll tighten up and feel a little sore, but theres nothing." The Blue Jays turned three double plays and Chad Jenkins allowed just one hit in 3 1-3 innings of relief. But it wasnt enough to prevent Toronto from absorbing its sixth loss in nine games. Toronto got a first-inning run without benefit of a hit. Munenori Kawasaki walked and hustled around the bases to score from first on a dropped fly ball by left fielder Jason Pridie. Wieters tied it in the second, hitting a curveball into the seats in left field for his 22nd home run. In the Baltimore third, Brian Roberts singled and scored on a double by Markakis, who moved up on an infield hit and came home on a fly ball by Wieters. NOTES: Major league home run leader Chris Davis was ill and given the night off by Orioles manager Buck Showalter. ... The Blue Jays played without 1B Adam Lind, whose "back locked up on him" Wednesday night, according to Gibbons. Lind was replaced at 1B by Ryan Langerhans, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Buffalo before the game. Toronto moved LHP Brett Cecil (elbow) to the 60-day DL. ... Baltimore will be without OF Chris Dickerson (right hamstring) and 2B Alexi Casilla (thumb) for the rest of the season. ... The Blue Jays close out the season with a home series against the Tampa Bay Rays, and Baltimore will host the Boston Red Sox for a three-game set. The Orioles plan to start Scott Feldman, Wei-Yin Chen and Chris Tillman. ... Buehrle is 2-8 against the AL East and 10-2 against everyone else. Michael Bennett Jersey . The club says its first-choice centre back "underwent medical tests on Wednesday morning" which confirmed he has injured his right hamstring. The injury was caused in the second minute of Tuesdays 4-1 league win over Real Sociedad in the Camp Nou when teammate Sergio Busquets accidentally struck Mascherano just above the knee with an outstretched boot. The move announced Tuesday at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association show comes on the heels of Ganassis switch last month from Honda to Chevrolet in the IndyCar Series. Chip Ganassi Racing is the most successful team in Daytona Prototype history and won its seventh DP team championship this season. It has used BMW engines the last four seasons, but will make the switch to Ford in time for the start of the unified TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series. "We are very excited to be switching to Ford power for our sports car program," Ganassi said. "Over the last 10 seasons we have been able to experience a great deal of success in GRAND-AM and now with the dawn of the new United SportsCar Championship, we feel that Ford power will be a key ingredient to writing the next chapter of our sports car program." The move to Ford marks a return to the blue oval for Ganassi lead driver Scott Pruett. He started with Ford in 1985 and was signed as a full-time factory driver the next season. Pruett won four IMSA and SCCA Trans-Am championships in three years before moving to IndyCar racing. Both of Pruetts IndyCar wins came with Ford and his one full season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series was with Ford. "Coming back to Ford is the perfect way to bookend my career," ssaid Pruett. Mike Wallace Eagles Jersey. "To be honest, without Ford, there is no Scott Pruett. Ford gave me the chance to drive my first real race car - the front-engine Mustang GTP in 1983 - and then they were willing to take a chance on me when no one else did in 1985 and 1986." Pruett, winner of 59 major sports car events and a record five Rolex 24 At Daytona wins, will again team with Memo Rojas to pilot the Telcel/TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates entry. Pruett and Rojas have won 27 races since 2007. "Partnering with Chip and his championship-calibre organization in this new sports car series is a critical ingredient to our Ford EcoBoost program in USCC," said Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing. Ford debuted its new EcoBoost DP engine at Daytona in September, when Colin Braun drove the 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo-powered Michael Shank Racing Riley to a track record of 222.971 mph. Ford representatives had been searching for additional teams for 2014 to join Shank, but Ganassi could have also moved to Chevrolet and run Corvette DPs in 2014. He is partnered with Chevrolet in NASCAR, and will be with Chevy next season in IndyCar. Ford EcoBoost branding has appeared on various Ford race cars around the world the past two seasons as part of a strategy to raise brand awareness of the growing Ford line of production engines, which are now available in 1.0-litre, 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre, 2.0-litre and 3.5-litre versions. Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. Tim Williams Jersey . This week, they discuss preparations for the Rio Olympics, the exciting first round of the NBA playoffs, Mike Keenan victorious in Russia and the prolonged wait for the NFL Draft finally coming to an end. Bruce Arthur, Toronto Star My thumb is down to the International Olympic Committee and…I know, I know…you feel like weve been here before, but this is a new frontier because the concept of an Olympics in Rio was new when the IOC awarded Brazil the 2016 games seven years ago. Concerns about readiness, inequality and about the way the country might react? Dont worry! Rio! Now with two years to go, the IOC is shocked…shocked…to find that they gambled on a country that hasnt built the establishment. Seriously, Rio is in major organization trouble with whole complexes unbuilt and with public unrest still simmering, the IOC is lamenting the fact that they cant employ Beijing-style slave labour. Theyre blaming it on Rio. Guess who they should be blaming instead? Steve Simmons, Toronto Sun My thumb is up to the first round of the playoffs and Im not talking about the Stanley Cup playoffs, which have been marvelous, as usual. Im talking about the NBA playoffs, where, normally, the first round is about favourites winning and not much else, but not this year. A last-second three by the sensational Damian Lillard of Portland meant there were five Game 7s in the first round, instead of a record-breaking six. There have been eight overtime games and the road team has won 21 of the first 36 playoff games - this from a league that usually sees the home teams win 70 per cent of the time. And, of course, there is Game 7 in Toronto today with the possibility of 2 million people watching on TV. If this isnt fun, I dont know what is. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated My thumb is up to Mike Keenan, who reminds us that a coach is a coach is a coach, no matter the team or the time zone. Keenan always dreamed of winning a Cup, although probably not the Gagarin Cup. Two decades after the New York Rangers memorable Stanley Cup run, Iron Mike did it again on the far side of the erstwhile Iron Curtain, coaching the KHLs Metallurg Magnitogorsk to a Game 7 win over Lev Prague. Note one striking similarity in the championships: as he did after beating the Vancouver Canucks in 94, Keenan celebrated in the dressing room by singing karaoke - this time in Russian, of course. The Red Army choir is not giving up its day job. Dave Hodge, TSN My thumb is up to May 8, which is coming soon - on Thursday - and thats why my thumb is up, because when May 8 finally arrives, it brings with it the National Football League Draft…finally. Did I say "finally?" When the NFL moved the draft from April to May, we might have known wed be sick of mock drafts by now. There is actual analysis that proclaims winners and losers of mock drafts! Ive heard so much about Jadeveon Clowneys awesome talent and alleged laziness that Im sure there are two Jadeveon Clowneys. Im not sure if the Houston Texans will take one of them or which one or if the Texans will take Johnny Manziel or if theyll trade down - I only know they cant trade up and I dont care anymore what they do, I just want them to do it. On May 8. Brent Urban Jersey . Summers has seen scant playing time with the Coyotes since being selected 29th overall by the club in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, having played in 47 career NHL games. Alex Collins Jersey . Or maybe he already did. Clark hit his first homer, Wily Peralta pitched into the seventh inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Miami Marlins 4-1 Wednesday night. http://www.officialbaltimoreravensfootba...sey-womens . Although taking two of three from the Baltimore Orioles wasnt nearly as uplifting as winning the World Series, it still felt pretty darn good. Felix Doubront and four relievers combined kept Baltimores potent lineup in check, and David Ortiz had three of Bostons 12 hits off Wei-Yin Chen in a 4-3 victory Thursday night.NEW YORK, N.Y. - Todd Bowles is filling out his coaching staff with the New York Jets. The new head coach hired Kacy Rodgers as his defensive co-ordinator and Bobby April Jr. as special teams co-ordinator Friday. Bowles tabbed Chan Gailey as the Jets offensive co-ordinator earlier in the week.Rodgers had been Miamis defensive line coach since 2008. He and Bowles worked together previously with the Dolphins and under Bill Parcells in Dallas. The 45-year-old Rodgers was a defensive lineman and linebacker at Tennessee and spent time in camp with Pittsburgh and Shreveport of the Canadian Football League.Rodgers coaching career began as the defensive line coach at Tennessee-Martin in 1994, and then made stops at Northeast Louisiana, Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas. The 61-year-old April, regarded as one of the NFLs top special teams coaches, was with Oakland the past two seasons. He previously worked with Philadelphia, where he worked with Bowles in 2012, and coached in Buffalo, St. Louis, New Orleeans, Pittsburgh and Atlanta. Michael Pierce Jersey. is son, Bobby April III, was the Jets linebackers coach last season and followed Rex Ryan to Buffalo.Bowles also hired eight assistant coaches, including former NFL linebacker Mike Caldwell, who will serve as the assistant head coach and work with the inside linebackers. The two worked together in Philadelphia in 2012 and in Arizona the past two seasons, helping turn the Cardinals into one of just five teams to hold opponents under 20 points per game the past two seasons combined.Caldwell played for Cleveland, Baltimore, Arizona, Philadelphia, Chicago and Carolina. Also hired by Bowles were: Mark Collins (outside linebackers), Joe Danna (defensive backs-safeties), Karl Dorrell (wide receivers) and Robby Brown (quality control-offence). Justus Galac was retained as the Jets strength and conditioning coach, while Kavan Latham and Aaron McLaurin also return as Galacs assistants.___AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap Buffalo Sabres Gear Wholesale Calgary Flames Jerseys Cheap Adidas Colorado Avalanche Jerseys Montreal Canadiens Outlet Store Wholesale New Jersey Devils Jerseys Adidas Arizona Coyotes Jerseys Cheap Adidas Boston Bruins Jerseys Cheap Adidas Carolina Hurricanes Jerseys Chicago Blackhawks Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys Dallas Stars Shop Free Shipping Cheap Adidas Detroit Red Wings Jerseys Anaheim Ducks Jerseys China Wholesale Edmonton Oilers Jerseys Florida Panthers Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Los Angeles Kings Jerseys Minnesota Wild Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Nashville Predators Jerseys Cheap Adidas New York Islanders Jerseys New York Rangers Winter Classic Jerseys Cheap Adidas Ottawa Senators Jerseys Cheap Adidas Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys Wholesale Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys Cheap Adidas San Jose Sharks Jerseys St. Louis Blues Winter Classic Jerseys Wholesale Tampa Bay Lightning Jerseys Toronto Maple Leafs Outlet Store Vancouver Canucks Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Vegas Golden Knights Jerseys Cheap Adidas Washington Capitals Jerseys Cheap Adidas Winnipeg Jets Jerseys ' ' '

PHOENIX -- Cornerback Patrick Peterson says hes confident he will get a new contract
Posted by: carrie201918 - Yesterday, 03:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

PHOENIX -- Cornerback Patrick Peterson says hes confident he will get a new contract with the Arizona Cardinals. He just doesnt know when. The Cardinals and his agent are in the early stages of negotiations, Peterson said, with no timetable on reaching an agreement. One thing for sure -- it will be a big deal. Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman just signed a four-year, $57 million contract with $40 million guaranteed. Peterson, a two-time All-Pro selection who has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in the NFL, wouldnt say whether his contract should be bigger than Shermans. But Peterson said he "kind of" had a smile on his face when he saw the terms of Shermans deal. He spoke Monday to announce a drive by his Patrick Peterson Foundation for Success to provide help to low-income and inner-city youth to have the resources they need to succeed. The foundations goal is to help 30,000 at-risk Arizona youth by 2015. A fundraising event, with his teammates serving at a local restaurant, is set for June 9. Peterson said that from the moment he became a professional football player, he decided his charity work would be aimed at helping children. Peterson congratulated Sherman on his contract and said the cornerback position has become a valuable one. "I think cornerbacks are definitely worth the dollars that they get because now this league is a passing league," he said. "You need that shutdown corner to lock down one side of the field, or like myself, go out there the entire field." Rather than play one side on defence, Peterson goes from side to side to defend the opponents best receiver. His skill and worth to the team may well drive his contract higher than Shermans. The Cardinals just picked up the option on Peterson for 2015, and hes not sure any deal will get done before the coming season. He knows the Cardinals are eager to keep him, though. "I think Ill be here for a while," Peterson said. "Thats a definite guarantee, Ill be here for a while." Coach Bruce Arians has said he wants to ease up on Petersons punt-return duties, and there is less chance he will be used on offence. Peterson tied an NFL record by returning four punts for touchdowns as a rookie but has not done it since. He said hes "cool" with Arians moves. "At the end of the day, I believe coach wants to put me in the best position that he can to keep me healthy, for one, and be successful," Peterson said. "Teams are starting to game-plan against me. Youve got teams kicking it to the sidelines, not kicking it as deep as they did the week before." Peterson likes the look of the secondary with the addition of cornerback Antonio Cromartie and last weeks selection of hard-hitting safety Deone Bucannon from Washington State, in the first round of the draft. Tyrann Mathieu, coming off knee surgery, is expected to fill the other safety spot with Rashad Johnson adding depth to the position. Peterson said he believes Cromartie "has a lot left in his tank." "You hear a lot of talk Oh, can he stay healthy? Is his hip going to be OK?" Peterson said. "But talking to him he says this is the best hes felt since he first entered the NFL." Bucannons addition drew a rave review from the star cornerback. "Im excited to see him fly around and knock off some chin straps -- legally," Peterson said. Deion Sanders Jersey . Top-seeded Djokovic, who is making only his second appearance this year after reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over 54th-ranked Istomin of Uzbekistan. "It wasnt as easy as the scoreline indicates," said Djokovic, who has won in Dubai on four occasions. Dansby Swanson Jersey . Thats when the eight-time champion revealed that a painful back is slowing his serves -- and, all in all, giving him more trouble than his opponents so far. http://www.baseballbravesproshop.com/bab...es-jersey/. Al Horford said all he had to do was make the catch near the basket and then shoot a soft jumper. Dale Murphy Jersey . The right-hander said he threw about 30 pitches in a routine bullpen session Sunday at Yankee Stadium, his final hurdle before starting Tuesday night at Tampa Bay. Atlanta Braves Jerseys .com) - Jahlil Okafor had 21 points, Tyus Jones scored 16 with 10 assists and No.WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Pitcher Carl Pavano is retiring after 14 major league seasons. The 38-year-old right-hander didnt pitch after June 1 in 2012 because of a strained right shoulder. His spleen was removed in January 2013 after he was injured when he fell in the snow at his home in Vermont. Pavano had been hoping to return to the major leagues this year. "Despite my strong desire to compete and hard work in preparing for the upcoming season, I feel that the amount of time lost from my spleen injury, coupled with the recovery from my complications from that injury, preclude me from continuing to compete at my highest level, which is necessary to perform in the major leagues," Pavano said in a statement released Wednesday by his agent, David Pepe. "I have achieved many things as a major league pitcher of which I am very proud. However, I feel at this time, I am simply not able to continue to pitch at the major leaggue level, and these last three months of rigorous training have failed to produce the results that I was looking for to allow me to continue my major league career.ddddddddddddquot; Pavano, an All-Star in 2004, was 108-107 with a 4.39 ERA for Montreal (1998-02), Florida 2002-04), the New York Yankees (2005, 2007-08), Cleveland (2009) and Minnesota (2009-12). He was an All-Star in 2004, going 18-8 with a 3.00 ERA and earning a $39.95 million, four-year contract with the Yankees. Injuries limited Pavano to 26 starts, 145 2-3 innings and a 9-8 record during his Yankees contract. He rebounded after leaving New York and went 17-11 for the Twins in 2010, when he tied for the AL lead in complete games with seven. "It has been an honour and a privilege to have been a major league baseball player, and the gratitude I have for being able to do that is profound and beyond any expression I can make in words," he said. TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled forward Carter Ashton and goaltender Drew MacIntyre from their American Hockey League affiliate on Tuesday. Ashton, 23, has registered three assists and 19 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Maple Leafs this season. The six-foot-three 215-pound winger has also played 24 games with the Toronto Marlies this season, collecting 23 points (16-7) with 30 penalty minutes. MacIntyre, 30, has appeared in one game for the Maple Leafs, stopping 14 shots in a relief effort March 23 at New Jersey. The six-foot-one 190-pound goaltender has a record of 27-13-5 with the Marlies this season. MacIntyre has a 2.49 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and one shutout in 46 games played. Ian Thomas Panthers Jersey .com) - The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with running back Jackie Battle on a one-year contract Friday. Donte Jackson Jersey . Leaning forward with both hands on his knees, Buffon appeared to be resting or somehow trying to withstand the rain. The Raptors second-year forward has been one of the primary beneficiaries of the early-season trade, breaking out and becoming a vital part of his teams success on both ends of the floor. Around the league, teams are starting to take notice and feature Ross more predominately in their pre-game scouting reports but its not just the opposition that hes impressing. Jarius Wright Panthers Jersey . The stakes were higher, the competition more fierce and the atmosphere was that of a playoff game - something the young, upstart Raptors have five weeks to better prepare themselves for or the result will be eerily similar. Rashaan Gaulden Panthers Jersey . -- Matt Rupert scored once in regulation and again in the shootout as the London Knights extended their win streak to nine games by defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.CLEVELAND -- Sitting on a stage last week alongside No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins and new coach David Blatt, general manager David Griffin said he hoped this would be a monumental off-season for the Cavaliers. Its already been quite a summer. And LeBron James is still out there. Cleveland kept its momentum rolling early Tuesday by getting All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to agree to a new, five-year, $90 million contract extension. Irvings deal, completed with a handshake in New York with owner Dan Gilbert, cements a commitment with Cleveland that wasnt always so strong. "Im here for the long haul Cleveland!!!! And Im ecstatic!!" Irving wrote on his Twitter account shortly after the agreement was reached. "Super excited and blessed to be here and a part of something special." For months, Irvings future with the Cavs seemed uncertain. There were reports he wasnt happy in Cleveland as well as speculation the Cavs didnt believe he was a cornerstone player. There were trade rumours and rumblings the team was not going to offer him the maximum extension. Whatever differences there may have been seem to have been worked out. Griffin, who likes to refer to his team as "family," has the Cavs united. James surely has noticed. The Cavs have waited four years for their chance to lure the four-time league MVP back home. This may be the perfect time. Because Irvings extension doesnt kick in until the 2015-16 season, the Cavs have room under the salary cap to pursue free agents. They would have to move some other contracts if the reports are accurate that James will only sign for a max deal. Griffin has said clearing space to accommodate a five-year, $120 million contract would be extremely easy. The hard part might be getting James to believe the Cavs, who have not made the playoffs since he left in 2010, are title contenders -- now. Theyve got some quality pieces for sure, but do they have enough? Irving, who played in a career-high 71 games this past season, has established himself as one of the NBAs elite point guards, and now that the contract situation is no longer an issue, it may unburden him to play the best basketball of his life.dddddddddddd The 6-foot-8 Wiggins would have been the top pick a year ago if he hadnt gone to college and James has long admired the 19-year-olds gifts. Its somewhat interesting that Griffin said Wiggins potential greatness would come at shooting guard, perhaps leaving an opening at small forward for a certain former Cavalier. To entice James, the Cavs may need to make a blockbuster move. Theyve got some assets to play with and a trade involving talented guard Dion Waiters could bring back a starter. Griffin hinted that he isnt done remodeling the Cavs. "We need to continue to work on the defensive side of the ball," he said at Wiggins introductory news conference. "We need to get better from a basketball IQ standpoint, from a shooting perspective. And all of those moves will be forthcoming." For several years, the Cavs have been involved in trade rumours involving Kevin Love, who has one year left on his deal with Minnesota. If Cleveland can package the right pieces together, they may be able to pry Love away from the Timberwolves. Love and James were teammates four years ago in the London Olympics, where they helped the U.S. win a gold medal. Back then, James said that when he won his first championship with Miami, his thoughts quickly shifted to Cleveland and what might have been. "I wish I could have won one there," he said before a practice. "I could only imagine how the parade would have been down East Ninth Street. Of course I thought about it because Cleveland helped me get to that point. The days that I spent there helped me get to the point where I was able to finally win one. Its just unfortunate I wasnt able to do it there." Its possible James will re-sign with the Heat and the Cavs will move on without him. But if they decide to pursue the two-time champion in the days ahead and get a meeting with James, the Cavs can sell their team and tug at his heart. James has never rejected the idea of a return to Cleveland. Maybe this is the summer to mend fences and start anew in a familiar place. BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo Sabres rookie forward Corey Tropp is out indefinitely after breaking his jaw during a fight that sparked a melee in a preseason game at Toronto last weekend. Coach Ron Rolston said Wednesday that Tropp is expected to miss at least five weeks after having surgery to repair the jaw. Tropp also sustained a concussion. Tropps head was bloodied following a fight with Torontos Jamie Devane midway through the third period of Buffalos 5-3 loss on Sunday. A full line brawl occurred before the next faceoff, when Sabres enforcer John Scott went after Torontos Phil Kessel. The brawl led to 211 penalty minutes and three ejections. Rolston was fined by the NHL, which deemed he was partially responsible for his player selection and team conduct. Frank Gore 49ers Jersey .com) - Demario Richard posted four touchdowns and Kweishi Brown came up with a key late interception as No. San Francisco 49ers Jerseys .Y. -- Syracuse guard Trevor Cooney was mired in a shooting slump, and his woes coincided with a late-season swoon by the Orange. http://www.49ersrookiestore.com/Customized/. - The Mavericks built a 12-point lead with 2:50 to play, gave away all but two points of it, and still managed to hang on. Tarvarius Moore Jersey . Rico dove horizontally to meet Andoni Iraolas precise long cross from the right to score his second league goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Two minutes later, Aritz Aduriz netted Bilbaos second when he raced forward and pounced on a poor clearance by Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, sending a low shot rolling past goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo. Fred Warner Jersey . Less than 24 hours after the Wolves lost at home to the Mavericks, 100-98, NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn announced Tuesday that Kevin Love was fouled on his right arm by Shawn Marion in the closing seconds and should have been awarded two free throws.Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hey Kerry, How in the world does PK Subban not get a penalty for pushing the net off with less than a minute left in the game!!!! As the broadcaster said, is it not a penalty shot? Was the official holding back in a tough spot? Martin Smalling,Kingston, ON Martin: First I provide the rule that the broadcaster, Jim Hughson referenced:  (63.2) A minor penalty shall be imposed on any player who delays the game by deliberately displacing a goal post from its normal position. The Referee shall stop the play immediately when the offending team gains possession of the puck. (63.5) If by reason of insufficient time in the regular playing time or by reason of penalties already imposed, the minor penalty assessed to a player for deliberately displacing his own goal post cannot be served in its entirety within the regular playing time of the game or at any time in overtime, a penalty shot shall be awarded against the offending team.  Martin, for the referee to apply this rule the optimum word is "deliberate." There was more than reasonable doubt created on this play (Click here for the viz courtesy of TH2N) in the referees judgment (and mine) that PK Subban did not deliberately displace the goal post in his effort to gain possession of the puck behind the Montreal net. As you watch the replay take note of the puck location as it rested behind the Montreal net after it was shot into the Habs zone by David Krejci and played by the stick of Carey Price from within his goal crease.  Subban is the closest Montreal player to the puck just outside and to the right of center of the goal crease as he faced the net.dddddddddddd PK is also a right hand shot and would have noticed in advance the Bruins forecheck by  Zdeno Chara to his right side and Milan Lucic in the centre and Jarome Iginla to Subbans left. Given Subbans position in the moment and that of the puck in relation to the Bruins forecheckers, PK determined his best play was to get to the puck and reverse it up the wall with his forehand. An attempted backhand clearing shot against the oncoming force of Chara was clearly not the best or safest option for Subban to take! PK Subbans attack of the puck (based on his position) took him through Carey Prices goal crease until he was forced to make an immediate right turn at the corner of the net with Lucic and Igina bearing down on his left side. Subban recognized he had little time to get to the puck and make a play in advance of the Bruins attack and in the essence of time cut as closely to the goal post as possible. Just prior to contact with the post Subban elevated his shoulder and changed his posture in what appears to be a minimal effort to avoid the post. Given the hard cut that he was making contact with the post became accidental and not deliberate. I dont even believe this was an "accidentally on purpose" moment for PK Subban as his intent was to get to the puck as quickly as he could to make a play. For the referee to assess a penalty shot on this play there had to be absolutely no doubt in his mind that PK Subbans intent was to deliberately displace the goal post. More than reasonable doubt was created.   GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers are coming off consecutive division victories
Posted by: carrie201918 - Yesterday, 02:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers are coming off consecutive division victories after a rocky start. Coach Mike McCarthy knows they have plenty of room for improvement.Echoing a sentiment quarterback Aaron Rodgers had expressed in the immediate aftermath of the Packers 42-10 rout of the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field on Thursday night, McCarthy said that despite the offence having turned in consecutive encouraging performances and the defence starting to create turnovers and get stops, the Packers (3-2) need to get better. When you evaluate your football team, you look at your play style, which way youre going to play each and every day. Theres a standard there, McCarthy explained Friday afternoon in his usual day-after-the-game press briefing. Quality of play, youre always chasing quality of play to be higher. And, ultimately, win the game. Our play style hasnt been very consistent. Our quality of play, we have a lot of work to do there. ... We need to be better. That was Rodgers message after the game as well. Both Rodgers (12 of 17, 156 yards, three touchdowns, 138.7 quarterback rating) and running back Eddie Lacy (13 carries, 105 yards, two TDs) were extremely efficient, but after a three-and-out to open the game and back-to-back touchdown drives, the offence stalled until defensive end Julius Peppers 49-yard interception return for a touchdown. While that might have been nitpicking for a team that built a 42-0 third-quarter lead, Rodgers a€” after telling fans to R-E-L-A-X before Sundays victory at Chicago after the teams 1-2 start a€” didnt think so.A lot to improve on, I think, Rodgers said. Offensively, were a little stagnant.I think we have some considerable improvements to make moving forward. I mean, this was a home game for us. Defence played really well. Offensively, we started pretty good. Two touchdowns in three drives and then we kind of went stagnant for a while, so thats disappointing.Asked about Rodgers comments Friday, McCarthy replied: He speaks for the locker room, theres no question about it. Hes won championships, hes been an MVP of the league. He knows what it takes and he knows what it looks like, he knows what it feels like. He also knows where we are. Were all excited about what we can be.McCarthy gave his players Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, and while theyll return to work Monday, they will not practice, the coach said. Their next game is Oct. 12 at Miami, followed by an Oct. 19 home game against Carolina and an Oct. 26 trip to New Orleans.Theres a bunch of cliches about one game at a time. To me, its more about one day at a time, McCarthy said. Im a big believer that your preparation shows up in your performance. While Rodgers was dissecting the offensive performance, the members of the Packers defence recognized that shutting down the Vikings Christian Ponder-led a€” and Adrian Peterson-less a€” offence was what the unit was supposed to do. After giving up 496 yards to Chicago last Sunday, the defence cannot afford to be complacent.Still the group did play well. Peppers interception was one of three takeaways the defence created a€” giving the unit eight turnovers in the past three games a€” and the Vikings had just 123 yards of offence entering the fourth quarter. To rebound in that manner on a quick turnaround with a divisional rival coming in here, it feels great, outside linebacker Clay Matthews said of a defence that sacked Ponder six times and hit him 16 times. Weve been stressing that for quite some time. The offence and defence have had their ups and downs this season. Weve looked great at times, weve looked poor at times. But (this game) seemed like it was close to a complete game. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson had 24 points each to lift Brooklyn to a 94-87 win over the Raptors, making their first playoff appearance since 08. "I thought we played a little bit as expected as it is our first playoff game," Toronto coach Dwane Casey said.Ive looked high and low. Searched databases and websites. And I contacted the PGA Tour, which continues to look into it. While I cant be 100 per cent certain, based on my sleuthing, the six Canadians who will start in the Frys.Com Open Thursday represents a record for a PGA Tour event not based in Canada. Mike Weir, David Hearn, Graham DeLaet, Brad Fritsch, Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor will start play in the 2014-15 season opener being held in Napa, Calif., A seventh Canadian, Roger Sloan, is waiting patiently at the tournament, sitting as the fourth alternate as I tap this out. Its pretty heady stuff for Canadian golf fans. Next to the Americans (102) and the Aussies (nine), Canada has the most golfers in this tournament. Thats more than South Africa, more than England and more than South Korea. I can remember days when we would have fewer players in tournaments than golf powerhouses such as Denmark or Fiji. For all six players, the new season represents a chance, an opportunity to start again. Weir, the most seasoned of the bunch, is entering his 18th year on the tour, which, in itself is hard to fathom. After burning his two career money list exemptions the last two seasons, hes playing this year by virtue of finishing 109th on last years money list. In the off-season, Weir signed up with a new coach, Martin Ayers, an Aussie who Weir hopes will get him some consistency. The two spent a great deal of time working on fundamentals. Simple stuff such as alignment and aiming. The lefthander is hoping to find more of what we saw at the HP Byron Nelson last year, where he finished second. Im not sure if Weir, who turns 45 in May, has another major in him, but certainly he has plenty of game left if can find some consistency through the bag. For Graham DeLaet, the time is ripe, perhaps even past due, to finally get a victory. The Weyburn, Sask., native has done just about everything but win on tour and certainly fans are wondering when that breakthrough is going to happen. He is too, no doubt. I would have bet the house that DeLaet would have grabbed a win by now. Trouble is, winning on the PGA Tour is hard. Lots of things have to go your way – good breaks and great play. He might not win this year or he might win five times. But it seems more than likely that he will at least give himself lots of chances. DeLaet is also eyeing the Presidents Cup, taking place in South Korea next October. Hes currently fifth on the points list and if he plays this year as he did last, he should be a lock to bring his emotional game to the squad. David Hearn, by his own admission, is not a guy who is going to go out and shoot a 61 very often. But he will post four rounds of 68. And, as he showed at the Players last year, he can do it on difficult courses. His game is built on consistency and thats what hes hoping to build on for this year. Dont be surprised if Hearn posts a win. He has the talent to do so and he is continuing to get comfortable year after yeaar on tour courses.dddddddddddd Brad Fritsch didnt fare well last year and is playing this week thanks to his top-10 finish in the last regular PGA Tour event, the Wyndham Championship. However, it will also count as his minor medical extension – he received one start for time missed due to injury last year. He needs to finish eighth or better to retain his card for this season. Thats a tall task, but the Ottawa native is more than capable. If he doesnt get that done, hell have head back to the Web.com tour for another year. Thats not the ideal option but Fritsch has a good attitude about his job and is more than prepared to tee it up on that circuit if need be. The Canadian getting the most attention in the pre-season is Adam Hadwin, and with good reason. He tore up the Web.Com Tour last year, finishing as the leading money winner. He was also a finalist for player of the year. Confident without being cocky, Hadwin has the perfect game for the PGA Tour. I would not be the least bit surprised if he became the next Canadian to win on the PGA Tour, ending the drought that extends back to Stephen Ames 2009 win at the Childrens Miracle Network Classic. Nick Taylor put on a finishing kick in the Web.Com Tour finals to gain playing privileges on the PGA Tour. Many thought he would have been here before this, having put up a remarkable amateur career, which included being ranked No. 1 in the world. Of course we tend to do that as Canadian fans, expecting way to much way too soon. But more seasoning was required and now Taylor appears ready for the big leagues. He has played well at this level before – that U.S. Open performance back in 2009 is well known – now he needs to show he can do it consistently. Sloan, who figures he is assured of getting into the McGladrey in a few weeks, will play a waiting game. His status is well down the exemption list and hell need to hope for a few WDs over the next few events to earn spots in fields. Of course he won last year on the Web.Com Tour, at home no less, taking the Nova Scotia Open. While he sputtered across the finish line at the end of the season in no small measure due to the brutal schedule he was forced to play, he is capable of playing on the PGA Tour. Hell just need to bring his best stuff early to keep his status. Its an interesting time, for sure. Now, not all these players will get a full slate of starts. Taylor and Sloan will need fast starts to solidify their positions. Fritsch will need an exceptionally speedy beginning, as in one week. The other four can pick and choose, with DeLaet getting into more of the bigger events thanks to his world ranking. Its great to have a half-dozen out there, playing for themselves but with Canadian flags on their bags. So which one will perform best this year? Or even this week? Its nice to have some choice. I have been at this long enough when there were stretches where no Canadians were playing on the tour. This, I can assure you, is better. ROME -- Novak Djokovic has been pain-free for 10 days and is ready to return from the right wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from the Madrid Open a week ago. The second-ranked Serb has been practicing hard as he prepares for this weeks Italian Open and the French Open, which starts in two weeks. "Right now I feel much more confident at the state of my wrist and I know that Im ready much more to play a match than I was one week ago," Djokovic said Sunday after attracting thousands of spectators to a practice session with Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka on the Foro Italicos spectacular Pietrangeli court, which is lined with neo-classical statues. When Djokovic lost to Roger Federer in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinals last month, his wrist was heavily strapped and he was unable to serve or return at his usual level. "Its a wiser decision if you try to heal it 100 per cent than 50 per cent and compromise the next weeks," Djokovic said. The last thing Djokovic wanted to risk was a recurrence, citing wrist problems that have affected fellow players Juan Martin del Potro and Nikolay Davydenko "The second time that it comes back it becomes a chronic injury, which you definitely dont want to have," he said. "From now on I will be extra careful about my wrist." Djokovic opens in Rome against Czech veteran Radek Stepanek and hes hoping to have both of his head coaches in place this week -- long-time adviser Marian Vajda and six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker, who joined his staff in December. "Boris is here. And were trying to see if we can get Marian here, because theyre both going to be present in Paris," Djokovic said, adding that Vajda is spending more time with his family and two tennis-playing daughters lately. "(Vajda) understands and knows me really well and he can help Boris to get more efficient in that transition to co-operating well with me on the court," Djokovic said. "Thats why Im trying to get them to be together." A six-time Grand Slam winner himself, Djokovic won the Italian Open in 2008 and 2011.
