CLEVELAND -- The Browns may soon learn whether theyll have Josh Gordon this season. The Pro Bowl wide receiver will have an appeal hearing with NFL officials in New York on Aug. 1, a person with knowledge of the meeting told The Associated Press on Thursday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the discussions. The game-breaking playmaker is facing a possible one-year ban for violating the leagues substance abuse policy for at least the third time. Gordon, who had a history of marijuana abuse in college, was suspended for the first two games last season. He still led the NFL with 1,646 yards receiving. The 23-year-old player is expected to report to training camp Friday and hell be on the field Saturday as the Browns have their first practice under new coach Mike Pettine. According to reports, Gordon recently checked himself into rehab following an arrest in North Carolina. ESPNs Adam Shefter said Gordon spent two weeks at a facility in California. The Browns have been patiently waiting for a resolution on Gordons playing status, and his uncertain future has left a cloud over the team. The Browns first learned of a potential extended suspension on the second day of the NFL draft in May. The ESPN report doused the optimism created after the Browns, who have had only two winning seasons since 1999, drafted quarterback Johnny Manziel. On Wednesday, Pettine told the AP hes not consumed with worry about whether hell have Gordon. "The frustration has really faded," Pettine said. "Its just something thats there. Its equivalent of having that file folder with all the answers in it and its sitting there ready to go. Its just got a lot of dust. Were just waiting to hear from the league and well act accordingly." If Gordon loses his appeal, he could be banned by Commissioner Roger Goodell for a minimum of one year. He would then have to apply for re-instatement. Gordon has complicated his case with two recent legal infractions. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after speeding down a street in Raleigh, North Carolina, last month. In May, he was ticketed for speeding in Ohio, and a passenger in his car was cited for marijuana possession. Pettine said the Browns have no plans to release Gordon. The team intends to support him and give him any help he may need. "Josh is a Cleveland Brown and we want whats best for him and we want whats best for us," Pettine said. "Hes smart. Hes bright. Hes creative. Hes a guy that in a lot of ways that you root for." Lions Jerseys China . It was Ottawas first game without starter Anderson, who is out indefinitely after cutting his hand Wednesday night, and it was evident the team wasnt sure how to deal with the change in goal.DENVER -- Marcell Ozuna hit a grand slam for his third homer in as many games, Giancarlo Stanton had three hits and three RBIs, and the Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 13-5 on Friday night. Henderson Alvarez (10-5) withstood a pair of homers over six innings to win his fourth consecutive decision. He was making his second start since successfully returning last week from a stint on the disabled list because of a right shoulder inflammation. Alvarez struck out five, walked none and gave up 10 hits, including two-run homers by Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson but fought back to keep the Rockies lineup largely in check. The Marlins helped Alvarez get through the rough spots by staking him to a 4-0 lead. After Morneau connected for his 14th homer of the season, the Marlins capitalized on some wayward pitching by the Rockies, who overall issued nine walks and hit a batter with a pitch. Franklin Morales (5-7) gave up a single to Christian Yelich and double to Jeff Baker to start the fifth before walking Stanton intentionally to load the bases. McGehee then drove in a run by drawing a walk off Morales, who was relieved by Brooks Brown. After geetting a forceout at the plate, Brown walked Jarrod Saltalamacchia to force in another run and Miami pulled in front 6-2.dddddddddddd Dickerson cut the deficit to 6-4 in the fifth, following Nolan Arenados two-out single with his 18th home run. Miami added another run in the seventh on an RBI double by Donovan Solano. TRAINERS ROOM Marlins: RHP Carter Capps, on the disabled list since late May with right elbow sprain, was scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday in the rookie level Gulf Coast League. The Marlins are hoping hell be ready for reinstatement in early September. Rockies: OF-INF Michael Cuddyer missed a third consecutive game because of a sore left hamstring. Cuddyer came off the disabled list last weekend after missing 2 1-2 months with a fractured left shoulder. He played in a doubleheader and hit for the cycle Sunday in his first day back but later felt soreness in the hamstring the next day and he remains day to day. LONDON -- Milos Raonic defeated wild-card entry Nick Kyrgios of Australia 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (4) Wednesday to become the first Canadian man in more than 100 years to reach the Wimbledon semifinals. Raonic finished the contest with his 39th ace on his fourth match point, earning a semifinal matchup against seven-time champion Roger Federer. "Ive always wanted to play well here, to change my luck around like this is pretty special. Its another step forward," Raonic said. "My goal is to be the best in the world and this is one of the steps you have to take toward that goal Its what I dream of -- achieving on the big stage." The 144th-ranked Kyrgios, who upset Rafael Nadal in the fourth round on Tuesday, was attempting to become the first wild card to make the semifinals at a Grand Slam since Goran Ivanisevic at Wimbledon in 2001. Raonic is the first Canadian mens singles player to reach the semifinals at a Grand Slam since William Johnston at the 1923 U.S. Championships. The last Canadian man to reach the Wimbledon semis was Robert Powell in 1908. Raonic has not beaten Federer in four career matches, including a three-set Federer win at a 2012 grass-court event in Halle, Germany. Their only Grand Slam matchup was at the fourth round of the 2013 Australian Open, where Federer won in straight sets. "This will be another big challenge for me, one that Ill relish," Raonic said. "I want to put myself out there in these positions. Ill give my all and well see what happens." Federer moved on to the semifinal with a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4 win over fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka. Wheeler repeated that he believes Kane is a player who has the ability to help the Jets get to the next level as they try once again to reach the playoffs in 2014. He made the comments initially in an interview, when asked how the Jets could compete in the Central Division with teams that have made some high-profile off-season signings. Jose Juan Barea Jersey . - The Jacksonville Jaguars are leaning more toward playing injured quarterback Blake Bortles against Tennessee on Thursday night.EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Adrian Peterson has been away from the Minnesota Vikings for almost two months. If hes allowed back this season, teammates would welcome him without hesitation. That was the consensus from players as they left the practice field Tuesday, shortly before Peterson avoided jail time and a trial on the child abuse charge against him with a plea agreement in Texas. No special address or apology would be necessary, they said.Guys have chatted amongst each other, and I dont think theres anyone in that locker room that would need to hear from him, tight end Kyle Rudolph said. We all know the kind of person Adrian is, and I feel like hes proven that over his time here.So now the question is whether he will return to the Vikings this season. He has been on paid leave, making more than $690,000 each week, via a special roster exemption issued by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. That hiatus was the result of an intense deliberation by the team, the league, the union and Peterson, after the Vikings initially announced Sept. 15 he would be back in the lineup as usual after sitting out the teams Sept. 14 home opener against New England on the heels of the indictment. The public backlash to that decision was swift and strong, prompting the NFL and the Vikings to reconsider and shelve him while his case played out.Now after his plea agreement, the focus of Petersons unprecedented story has shifted from the courtroom back to the league. We will review the matter, including the court record, and then make a determination on his status. We cannot provide a timetable, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.Earlier in the day, prior to the plea agreement, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said the organization would withhold comment on Petersons situation until its appropriate to speak. About five hours after Petersons court appearance, the Vikings issued a 20-word statement acknowledging the plea agreement and delaying comment until the appropriate time.NFLPA spokesman George Atallah declined to comment. Petersons agent, Ben Dogra, said he wasnt prepared to discuss anything at this time but would gladly do so aat the appropriate time.ddddddddddddThe nameplate is still on Petersons cubicle in the locker room, filled with equipment just the way he left it. The offence has been different, of course, but with elusive rookie Jerick McKinnon and powerful overachiever Matt Asiata the backfield has been the least of the teams concerns since Peterson was placed on leave.McKinnon has two 100-yard performances and a total of 446 yards rushing, plus 106 yards receiving.I think we have a nice combination going with him and Matt, two different styles, Spielman said. Everybodys seen what Matt can do last year when he got the opportunity and some of the things hes doing this year.Asiata has a pair of three-touchdown games, with 277 yards rushing and 199 yards receiving.Though Peterson would first have to prove he stayed in playing shape, his return would certainly reduce the workload for both Asiata and McKinnon. But despite the hit his image has taken in public, Peterson has long been a revered presence on the team, not to mention an elite talent.Wed be happy to have him back. Hes a leader on this team, McKinnon said, adding: Obviously if Adrian comes back hes going to be the starting running back. Its just one of those things where everybody has a role. Got to accept it.Peterson sent coach Mike Zimmer a message before the Sept. 28 game against Atlanta that was shared with the team. Many players have kept in touch with him since he was put on leave.Hes one of the best players in the world, and hes obviously somebody whos meant a lot to this community, meant a lot for the team, fullback Jerome Felton said. Hes one of our leaders. He was up here in the off-season. People follow his lead because of how hard he works. So itd be pretty nice to add that back into the team.Said quarterback Teddy Bridgewater: If he does come back, Im pretty sure everyone would still take him in and welcome him with open arms.___AP Pro Football Writer Howard Fendrich in Washington and Associated Press Writer Juan Lozano in Houston contributed to this report.___AP NFL websites: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap Buffalo Sabres Gear Wholesale Calgary Flames Jerseys Cheap Adidas Colorado Avalanche Jerseys Montreal Canadiens Outlet Store Wholesale New Jersey Devils Jerseys Adidas Arizona Coyotes Jerseys Cheap Adidas Boston Bruins Jerseys Cheap Adidas Carolina Hurricanes Jerseys Chicago Blackhawks Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys Dallas Stars Shop Free Shipping Cheap Adidas Detroit Red Wings Jerseys Anaheim Ducks Jerseys China Wholesale Edmonton Oilers Jerseys Florida Panthers Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Los Angeles Kings Jerseys Minnesota Wild Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Nashville Predators Jerseys Cheap Adidas New York Islanders Jerseys New York Rangers Winter Classic Jerseys Cheap Adidas Ottawa Senators Jerseys Cheap Adidas Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys Wholesale Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys Cheap Adidas San Jose Sharks Jerseys St. Louis Blues Winter Classic Jerseys Wholesale Tampa Bay Lightning Jerseys Toronto Maple Leafs Outlet Store Vancouver Canucks Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Vegas Golden Knights Jerseys Cheap Adidas Washington Capitals Jerseys Cheap Adidas Winnipeg Jets Jerseys ' ' '

MELBOURNE, Australia - Midfielder Sardor Rashidov scored a goal in each half to give Uzbekistan a 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia on Sunday and a spot in the Asian Cup quarterfinals.Uzbekistan will next face South Korea in Melbourne on Thursday after finishing second in Group B to China, which completed a clean sweep of the group stage for the first time with a 2-1 win over already eliminated North Korea.China already secured top spot in the group with wins over Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan, and faces host Australia on Thursday in Brisbane.A jubilant Uzbekistan team formed a circle on the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium pitch after its match and danced around coach Mirdjalal Kasimov, who predicted there will be big holiday in Uzbekistan now.It was one of the great winning games, Kasimov said. It was great because of our players, they have done everything and they put all their power on the pitch. If we play like that in all our games well get the same result.Uzbekistan lost a qualifier 1-0 to South Korea in 2013 to miss a chance of a spot at the 2014 World Cup and Kasimov said his players were eager to reverse that result.Of course we always think about that losing game to Korea and I think our players will do their best and it will be a very interesting game, he said.Uzbekistan took the lead after just 90 seconds when man of the match Rashidov stole the ball against the run of play just inside the Saudi half before beating three defenders and sliding a shot between the legs of Saudi goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah.Saudi Arabia pushed relentlessly for no reward either side of halftime until Mohammed Al Sahlawi finally equalized from the penalty spot in the 60th minute when Naif Hazazi was brought down by Vitaly Denisov in the area.Uzbekistan looked to have scored from a free kick just two minutes later, but an apparent goal was called back after the referee ruled a Saudi defender was pulled down while standing in the wall.Second-half substitute Vokhid Shodiev restored the lead for Uzbekistan in the 71st when he leapt to meet a long cross from Shavkatjon Mulladjanov and powerfully headed the ball inside the near post.Rashidov claimed his second goal to put the win beyond doubt in the 79th when he gathered a long, centring pass from Jasur Khasanov inside the area and outran the Saudi defence before firing the ball past Abdullah in the Saudi net.Its disappointing for me, for everyone, Saudi Arabia coach Cosmin Olariou said. When you make mistakes like we did today, sometimes you pay a price, and the price was qualification.Sun Ke scored in the 1st and 42nd minutes in front of a raucous Canberra Stadium crowd of more than 18,000 mostly Chinese fans. North Koreas goal came via an own goal from Lin Gao in the 56th.North Korea coach Jo Tong Seob was upbeat after his sides third straight loss of the tournament. This tournament is on the way to the Russia World Cup in 2018, so I regard this as preparation for the team, Jo said. This tournament in Australia will be very good experience and motivate our team for further success, including qualification for the 2018 World Cup.On Monday, Iran and the United Arab Emirates — who have already qualified for the quarterfinals from Group C — will meet in Brisbane, while eliminated Qatar and Bahrain will be playing for pride in Sydney. Steve Larmer Jersey . "We cannot stay the same way the whole season long," said Reyes. "This is not acceptable. Something needs to change because were a better team than what were showing right now. With the round-of-32 matchup practically decided after Barcelonas 4-1 victory in the first leg, the match lacked pace at the start and Cartagenas Diego Segura almost snatched a goal for the third-division side when he curled a free kick off the upright in the 28th minute. But three minutes later Pedro Rodriguez scored his third goal of the series before Cristian Tellos deflected shot sneaked inside the post in the 68th. Neymar rose over his marker to head home Andres Iniestas cross in the 88th and record his first goal in the competition. The Brazil striker scored a hat trick against Celtic last week and he netted twice against Villarreal over the weekend. Barcelona captain Carles Puyol played his first game at Camp Nou in nine months after being sidelined by injuries. "Its always important to play well at home and we made sure to finish off the tie," Pedro said. Barcelona will next face Getafe after it brushed aside second-division Girona 4-1 to go through 5-2 on aggregate. Barcelona first travels to Madrid to play Getafe on Sunday in the Spanish league before they meet twice more in the cup in January. Getafe cruised to the win at home on goals by Pablo Sarabia, Adrian Colunga, Angel Lafita and Lisandro Lopez. Alcorcon, the minnow that shocked Real Madrid 4-0 in 2009, fought back on the road to erase a 2-0 first-leg loss to Granada bbefore bettering the topflight side on penalties.dddddddddddd The second-division team forced extra time after goals by defenders Hector Verdes in the 42nd and Alberto Gomez in the 83rd to level the aggregate score at 2-2. Alcorcon showed more mettle in the shootout that went to a sixth round before Granada centre back Jeison Murillo launched his spot kick over the bar. Also, Osasuna eliminated Malaga on away goals after a 1-1 draw, earning the Pamplona-based side a possible meeting with Madrid in the round of 16. Osasuna, which had rallied from a three-goal deficit to draw 3-3 in the first leg, went ahead through Malaga defender Weligtons own goal seconds into the match. Malaga forward Eliseu Pereira levelled with a long strike in the 61st, but Bernd Schusters team fell one goal short. "The first goal was a shame," said Schuster. "We had conceded before we even touched the ball." Madrid hosts third-division Xativa Olimpic on Wednesday after being held to a 0-0 draw in their first game. Villarreal forward Jeremy Perbet curled the ball in off the post in the 58th to claim a 1-0 win at Elche, sending his team through 3-2 on aggregate. Levante routed Recreativo Huelva 4-0 at home to easily overturn its 1-0 first-leg loss. Simao Mate headed in Levantes first goal four minutes in, with Ruben Garcia, Andreas Ivanschitz and David Barral following suit against the second-division opponent. San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker is listed as day-to-day after an MRI conducted Thursday revealed a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring. Parker left Wednesdays series-clinching win over Portland early in the second quarter with tightness in his hamstring and did not return. He was 0-for-2 from the floor prior to exiting the eventual victory, which sent the Spurs into the Western Conference finals for the third straight year. The six-time All-Star averaged 23 points and 6.5 assists through the first four games against the Trail Blazers. San Antonio will start the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. As he spoke about it, the Raptors sophomore centre scanned the room for wood to knock on. "It is disappointing because we lost today so thats the worst part of the day," said Valanciunas, who left Tuesdays game with a lower-back sprain in the third quarter, missing the rest of Torontos 118-113 overtime defeat at the hands of the Hawks.ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Though his physical condition is no longer a big question mark for Peyton Manning, when he looks around at training camp, he must feel like hes starting over again. Manning lined up for his first snaps Thursday behind an offensive line that has been shuffled, in front of a running back who took only about 25 per cent of the snaps last year and looking down the line at some pass catchers, who 12 months ago, were either bit players or playing somewhere else. The quarterback who thrived on the familiarity of playing with the same receivers -- Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison -- same tight end -- Dallas Clark -- and same running backs -- either Edgerrin James or Joseph Addai -- year after year in Indianapolis, is now having to adjust to a revamped offensive roster to start his third year in Denver. Bottom line: "Just because you did certain things last year means nothing as far as this upcoming season," Manning said. "Ive always felt the NFL does not owe you anything." But even by an NFL rosters constantly shuffling standards, the Broncos did some major reorganizing around their franchise quarterback -- the 43-8 loss to Seattle in the Super Bowl exposing too many problems for the AFC champions to stand pat. The line will be different with the return of Ryan Clady at left tackle and the shifting of Orlando Franklin, who had a poor Super Bowl, from right tackle to left guard. Montee Ball will replace Knowshon Moreno at running back. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Sanders replaces Eric Decker at receiver. And just to accentuate the feel Thursday, former No. 5 receiver Andre Caldwell was getting reps in place of Demaryius Thomas, who was excused to attend his grandmothers funeral. "Were certainly looking for continuity and chemistry with the new players,&quoot; Manning said.dddddddddddd "Every year you have to establish that particular teams identity. Were in the process of doing that right now." John Elway, who put this roster together, said he hopes part of the new identity will take some of the focus off Manning, much the same way he became less of a focal point in his final years, which produced his two Super Bowl wins. "I think that weve got to get to be where were a complete football team," Elway said. "We cant rely on 18 to win it because he cant win it by himself." While Elway was talking more about his off-season revamp of the defence, he has also been making plenty of moves to shore up the parts around Manning, who set records for yards (5,477) and touchdowns (55) last season and also won his fifth Most Valuable Player Award. Ball, last years second-round pick, is viewed as a long-term prospect at running back. The Broncos spent this years second-round pick on receiver Cody Latimer, in the hopes hell be catching passes from Manning and his successor for years to come. In practice Thursday, Manning looked often toward tight end Julius Thomas, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound pass catcher with whom the Broncos are hoping to sign a long-term contract extension. "An important part of the team this year," Manning called him. And a familiar one -- something Manning almost certainly didnt think hed be searching for this hard come Year 3 with the Broncos. "Thats probably the worst thing about football, is when you lose great players from the previous year, who are also great guys," Manning said. "Well certainly miss guys like Eric and Knowshon -- guys youve played in a lot of big games with, guys you put a lot of sweat and work in with in this facility and this weight room. "But its an opportunity for other guys to step up." Things often got testy, for example this bench clearing brawl.Best tradeSadImage via Melt Your Faceoff)In what arguably is one of the best trades in NHL history, the Nordiques traded the rights to Eric Lindros (who didnt want to play with the team) to the Philadelphia Flyers for the rights to Peter Forsberg, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, a 1993 1st round selection (which turned out to be Jocelyn Thibault) a 1994 1st round pick (traded to Toronto) and $15 million dollars. The trade ultimately shaped the 1996 Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche.Check out the TSN special on the deal. What would the Nordiques new logo look like if they hadnt moved? The team ran this new logo in the Canadian press they would have used had they not moved to Colorado(Images via Wikipedia)Last game: May 16, 1995. The Quebec Nordiques fell to the New York Rangers 4-2 in Game 6 of their first round series.Captain: Joe Sakic(Image via Denver Post)Whyd the move? The team faced serious financial problems, despite having a fairly stable fan base. With the weakened Canadian dollar, the team just couldnt compete against American teams. Eventually the team was sold to the same owners of Denver Nuggets, and the team became the Colorado Avalanche. What does a former player have to say?Goaltender Ron Tugnutt(Image via Goalies Archive)What was it like to be a member of the Nordiques? It was pretty cool actually. I loved the city and the culture. Theres a fortunate and an unfortunate; for me they were going through a youth movement change therefore I got to crack the lineup at a young age. At 20 I was playing in the NHL, which was nice. The downside was that we were going through that youth change and there was a lot of losing that was taking place. In general though, it was a great experience. What was it like to play in the Quebec market? It was great. I did pick up some French along the way, I took it in school, but once youre living their, you tend to improve. The old part of downtown was very French and ordering food and dinner was tough, but the culture was fantastic. It was a great place to start my career. What was the best part about playing there?I think playing my first NHL game would be the highlight, because everybodys dream is to play in the NHL, so it was cool to accomplish that. My biggest highlight was meeting a lot of good friends - they were all young guys – and getting to know each other and stuff. I think that would be a huge highlight for me in Quebec City. Its hard; I enjoyed my time there. I have no problem with being there at all.Do you think hockey could thrive in that market again?Yeah, with the cap world they might be able too. For small market teams, its always going to be hard to keep all of your players, like in Winnipeg and Ottawa, because its difficult because there is bigger money elsewhere. Was it tough being in the same market as Montreal? No not at all because that was the rivalry, to me those were some of the best games to play. We never knew what would happen on those nights. It was always a very physical match. I thought that was a great thing to be so close to Montreal and be in that same market. Believe me, there was almost as many Quebec Nordiques fans in la belle province, and it always made for great entertainment.Previous #TBTsAtlanta ThrashersHartford WhalersCalifornia Golden Seals Colorado Rockies(Stats and info via Hockeydb and Sports E-Cylcopedia) Authentic Tennessee Titans Jerseys .Before a raucous sellout crowd, the Hawks won for the 29th time in 31 games to extend their Eastern-best record to 36-8.As usual, pretty much everyone chipped in.Four starters were in double figures and backup point guard Dennis Schroder led a spurt at the start of the fourth quarter that helped the Hawks pull away. In the end, Ervin Santanas desire to pitch in the National League and his willingness to play the waiting game won the day when he signed a one-year deal with the Braves worth a reported $14.1-million, exactly the value of the qualifying offer he rejected from his former team, the Kansas City Royals. Anthopoulos was light on specifics but insisted neither term nor dollars affected Santanas decision. The Jays could have increased their offer to Santana. They cant change the league or division in which they play. “Couldnt compete with it,” said Anthopoulos. “Wish him the best, obviously Im sure us and other clubs would have loved to have had him but were going to move on.” Santana couldnt find a multi-year contract offer which suited him, due largely in part to the draft pick compensation owed Kansas City by the team that signed him. The preference to pitch in the National League, in and of itself, is understandable. “I certainly understand it,” said R.A. Dickey, who pitched in the NL East for the Mets. “You get to face a pitcher every night, you dont have the DH and then the games are quicker and all that stuff, parks a little bit bigger. So, it makes sense logically for him on a one-year deal in particular.” Santana is pitching for his next contract; a deal he hopes will be a multi-year pact. He will be 32 at the time. The Braves play in a division that features the young, rebuilding Miami Marlins, the Bernie Madoff-infected New York Mets and the expensive, aging Phillies. On paper, only the Nationals pose a threat to Atlanta and both could end up in the playoffs, one as a wildcard. The Braves entered the fray on the weekend after two of their top pitchers, Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy, experienced elbow pain. Beachy has had Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery.dddddddddddd It appears Medlen is destined for the operation, which would cost him the season, although he was seeking a second opinion. What isnt clear is how close the Blue Jays were to signing Santana before Atlanta emerged. It is clear they thought they close. “Talking about Santana (internally,) that kind of put some things on hold, it kind of changed our opinions on some things but now that hes gone were back to where we were,” said manager John Gibbons. Asked if he thought Santana would sign on the weekend, Anthopoulos kept his cards close. “Um, yeah, you know what, Id rather not say. Id probably rather not say.” Was Anthopoulos surprised the Jays didnt land Santana? “Thats another good (question.) Id probably rather not say on that one as well.” The Blue Jays exercised a full-court press to secure Santanas services. The pitcher has a number of friends on the club – hes a native of the Dominican Republic – and he shares an agent, Jay Alou, with Jose Bautista. None of it was enough. The Blue Jays are back to square one. R.A. Dickey, Brandon Morrow and Mark Buehrle are locks for the starting rotation. At the start of camp, Anthopoulos indicated J.A. Happ had a starters job, too, but has since backtracked. Happ was away from the team for two days late last week dealing with back pain both he and the club say isnt affecting his ability to pitch. Happ has been knocked around, to the tune of a 40.50 ERA in two appearances, and is now part of the larger group of pitchers competing for the final two rotation spots. Happ told TSN.ca on Saturday he hadnt been told of a possible change to his role. He was surprised and appeared vexed. “Well he hasnt told me anything,” said Anthopoulos. “As far as Im concerned, no one said anything to me, so I dont have any concerns.” Cheap Buffalo Sabres Gear Wholesale Calgary Flames Jerseys Cheap Adidas Colorado Avalanche Jerseys Montreal Canadiens Outlet Store Wholesale New Jersey Devils Jerseys Adidas Arizona Coyotes Jerseys Cheap Adidas Boston Bruins Jerseys Cheap Adidas Carolina Hurricanes Jerseys Chicago Blackhawks Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys Dallas Stars Shop Free Shipping Cheap Adidas Detroit Red Wings Jerseys Anaheim Ducks Jerseys China Wholesale Edmonton Oilers Jerseys Florida Panthers Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Los Angeles Kings Jerseys Minnesota Wild Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Nashville Predators Jerseys Cheap Adidas New York Islanders Jerseys New York Rangers Winter Classic Jerseys Cheap Adidas Ottawa Senators Jerseys Cheap Adidas Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys Wholesale Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys Cheap Adidas San Jose Sharks Jerseys St. Louis Blues Winter Classic Jerseys Wholesale Tampa Bay Lightning Jerseys Toronto Maple Leafs Outlet Store Vancouver Canucks Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Vegas Golden Knights Jerseys Cheap Adidas Washington Capitals Jerseys Cheap Adidas Winnipeg Jets Jerseys ' ' '

INDIANAPOLIS -- Michigan coach John Beilein had watched his team blow almost all of a 15-point lead, and he was sure he knew how Tennessee would try to take the lead. With 6 seconds left and trailing 72-71, Cuonzo Martin would probably send the ball into Jarnell Stokes, who would try to back into the post or drive. Beilein urged his defenders to buckle down and keep Stokes away from the rim. Jordan Morgan, who scored 15 points, heeded his coachs advice and stood his ground until Stokes lowered his shoulder. The senior forward immediately crashed to the floor -- perhaps embellishing the contact -- but drawing the call that saved the game for Michigan and infuriated Tennessees "Rocky Top" contingent. Big Ten player of the year Nik Stauskas of Mississauga, Ont., made a late free throw and nobody was more relieved than Beilein when Jordan McRaes 70-foot heave fell harmlessly to the floor as the buzzer sounded on a 73-71 Michigan victory. "We got just enough stops," Beilein said. Tennessee thought they got one stop unfairly. "With the magnitude of this game, I dont think you could call a charge at that point," McRae said dejectedly after scoring 24 points. But the officials did call it, allowing Michigan to reach a second straight regional final. The Wolverines (28-8) have won 10 of their last 11, none as tenuous or excruciating as this one to set up a Sunday showdown against eighth-seeded Kentucky, the 2012 national champion. The Wildcats won 74-69 over fourth-seeded Louisville, which beat Michigan in last years national championship game. Tennessee almost pulled off one of the most stunning comebacks in recent regional memory. With 10:55 to go, Spike Albrechts layup gave Michigan a seemingly insurmountable 60-45 lead. When Stauskas made the last of his three 3-pointers with 3:40 to go, the Wolverines still led 70-60. Stauskas finished with 14 points. For some reason, Michigan went into panic mode and, just two weeks after nearly blowing two big leads in the Big Ten tournament, they nearly threw this one away. The Volunteers staunch defence limited Michigan to just one basket over the final 3:40 and forced four turnovers in the final 97 seconds to give themselves a chance in the closing seconds. "I dont think I fouled him," said Stokes, who had 11 points and six rebounds after two straight double-doubles. "But it was a smart play for him to try to take the charge. He pretty much anticipated it." Just as Beilein had predicted. For most of the night, Michigan relied on its shooting stars to stay in control against a defence that had allowed just 54.0 points in its previous eight games. The Wolverines took a 13-point lead in the first half and still led 45-34 at halftime because they were shooting 61.5 per cent from the field and made 7 of 9 on 3-pointers. Michigan didnt slow down early in the second half, either, taking the biggest lead of the game at 60-45. But somehow Tennessee played itself right back into the game. The 11th-seeeded Vols, who had a first-round game in overtime at Dayton, Ohio, just to start their surprising post-season run, cut the deficit to 62-56 with 6:45 left. They got within 72-67 when McRae completed a three-point play with 1:56 to go. They made it 72-69 when Josh Richardson scored the last of his 19 points on a layup with 24.6 seconds left. McRaes layup following another Michigan turnover made it 72-71 with 10.8 seconds remaining. So when the officials ruled Michigans Caris LeVert caught the ball with one foot on the baseline and 9.6 seconds left, Martin made the smart call by giving Stokes a chance to win it with a basket or draw the foul. "We got the ball to Jarnell. Jordan set a screen for him to get him right to isolate him, attack him in the middle," Martin explained. "Obviously we got the ball where we wanted." However, the call went against them. "We heard all week about they had mismatches and how we couldnt guard them inside," Morgan said after letting out a scream at the end. "Were not really soft around here. Thats not who we are." Cheap Houston Texans Jerseys Online . NEW YORK, N.Y. - Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said Monday he will not give up control of the team and downplayed the clubs money losses last season as not a big deal.Speaking before the Nets home opener, Prokhorov says he is willing to listen to offers to sell a minority share of the team but that nothing is imminent. There had been reports last month that he had been involved in discussions about selling part of the team, though general manager Billy King said afterward that Prokhorov wouldnt sell his majority stake. My position is that I will not give up control of the team, but you know Im quite happy when somebody is sending me a nice offer without taking my controlling interest, Prokhorov said. I think for the time being nothing is imminent, but still I think its not bad just to listen.Sprinkling humour among his talk about basketball business, the Russian billionaire also joked about the departure of former coach Jason Kidd but added that the Nets shouldnt get mad, I think we should get even.Prokhorov bought the team in 2010 and had set a goal of winning a championship in five years, though the Nets are not considered serious contenders this season.I stay committed to the championship. I think if the stars align, we can do this, Prokhorov said. The bachelor has often said he would get married if the Nets didnt meet his five-year plan, and he said he hasnt begun the search for a bride.By the way, we have lost George Clooney, I think that is enough for this year, Prokhorov said.Prokhorov signed off a blockbuster trade with Boston last June that brought the Nets Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, and left the Nets with a bill of nearly $200 million in salaries and luxury taxes.ESPN.com had reported that the Nets basketball operations department lost $144 million last season. Its not a big deal just because I personally compensated this money from my pocket and thats why I will keep the structure for the time being, Prokhorov said. They let Pierce leave in free agency, seeming to signal a move toward more fiscal responsibility. But Prokhorov said hes still willing to spend, though wants a balance between veterans and younger players.Kidd spent one season as Brooklyn coach before the Nets let him leave to coach the Milwaukee Bucks after he sought more power within the organization.Asked why the Nets agreed to trade Kidd to the Bucks, Prokhorov said: There is a nice proverb in English. Dont let the door hit you where the good Lord has split you.I think we shouldnt get mad, I think we should get even and well see it on the court, Prokhorov added.Prokhorov only spoke to Nets reporters once last season, when the team played a game in London in January. He said he plans to attend about 25 per cent of their home games, though a team official said she wasnt sure yet if he would remain for their weeklong homestand that includes a game against the rival New York Knicks on Friday. ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long will undergo surgery and is expected to miss most of the season after injuring his left ankle in the opening loss to the Vikings. Coach Jeff Fisher said Wednesday hed not been optimistic about Long, who was hurt tackling Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in the third quarter. Apparently, Long was stepped on from behind. "Ive been here a few years now and its not good when he doesnt get up," Fisher said. "Hes never on the ground." Its the second major hit dealt to the Rams, who lost quarterback Sam Bradford for the year with a knee injury in the preseason. Bradford underwent surgery Monday. Long, the second overall pick in 2008, has never missed a game and has started 85 of 97 in his career. He had 8 1/2 sacks last season and 11 1/2 in 2013 and gave no sign of a serious injury while meeting with media after the opening loss. "Hes a very tough guy," said William Hayes, who inherits the starting job this week at Tampa Bay. "At the end of the day it was mind-boggling I didnt know he was hurt as bad as he was." Fisher said Ethan Westbrooks, who beat out Michael Sam for a backup defensive end spot, could be active this week. Bradford underwent surgery Monday for a second torn ACL in his left knee and is expected to rejoin the team next week. He missed the last nine games of 2013. Long will be placed on the injured reserve-designated to return list, which would sideline him at least six weeks. Fisher wouldnt go into specifics about the surgery, which will be done later Wednesday or early Thursday, but characterized it as "unique." "To know its requiring surgery is a bummer, because if it didnt require hed be out there," middle linebacker James Laurinaitis said. "I remember a couple years ago he had a high ankle (sprain) and couldnt practice, could barely walk. "But he would tape that thing up and go out and play." Fisher said Long also was examined by "several" specialists who agreed surgery was best not only for this season but for his career. "Hes not taking it very well," Fisher told reporters. "Obviously, you guys know him -- his personality is such that he let the team down because he cant be here. Thats what hes most disappointed about." Fisher was optimistic Long, the son of Hall of Fame defensive lineman Howie Long, will return before the end of the season. Hayes has been valuable in the rotation, totalling 12 sacks the previous two years, and will be making his first start in three seasons with St. Louis. He talked with Long and wasnt happy to be moving up at a teammates expense. "He just told me to go out there and have fun, try to make the best of the situation," Hayes said. "I wish him the best." Quarterback Shaun Hill did not practice with a left quadriceps injury that sidelined him for the second half of a 34-6 loss to Minnesota. Fisher said only that Hill was day to day. Austin Davis, who made his NFL debut against the Vikings, would be the starter if Hills not ready. The Rams acquired Case Keenum as insurance last week and Keenum got snaps for the first time in his fourth practice with St. Louis. "Hes starting to feel a little more comfortable in the system," Fisher said. "Hes working hard to get caught up." Fisher said Bradford decided over the weekend to have the surgery. Guard Rodger Saffold was back at practice as hed promised after leaving with a neck injury in the fourth quarter. Rookie defensive back Lamarcus Joyner was limited with a back injury. Kenny Stabler Jersey . And while taking highly-touted Simon Fraser offensive lineman Matthias Goossen second overall on Tuesday night will definitely help in an area of need for the club, it was a swap of draft picks that may prove to be his most shrewd move. Matt Carkner got back into the Ottawa lineup, and made his presence felt right away by settling his clubs score in a one-sided fight with Rangers forward Brian Boyle. NEW YORK -- Mets closer Bobby Parnell has a partially torn elbow ligament after just 25 pitches this season and might need surgery. The injury means 36-year-old Jose Valverde is likely to take over as closer for now in an already thin bullpen. Valverde, a three-time All-Star, has struggled with control in recent years. Parnell gave up Denard Spans tying double in the ninth inning during Mondays opening 9-7 loss to Washington. It was the right-handers first save opportunity since a neck injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the final two months last season. He complained of tightness in his right elbow after Mondays game. The Mets said the 29-year-old was examined Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery, had an MRI and was diagnosed with a partial tear of the right medial collateral ligament. Also Tuesday, injured Mets starter Jonathon Niese pitched five innings in a simulated game at the clubs spring facility in Florida. The left-hander allowed four runs, two earned, and five hits while throwing 76 pitches. Niese was hampered by elbow inflammation in spring training. He could come off the disabled list to start on Sunday against Cincinnati. New York plans to bring up Kyle Farnsworth to take Parnells roster spot before Wednesdays game against the Nationals. Infielder Wilmer Flores also is likely to be recalled from the minors to replace secoond baseman Daniel Murphy, who would go on paternity leave.dddddddddddd Parnell was 5-5 with a 2.16 ERA and 22 saves in 26 chances last year. He averaged 92.1 mph for 20 two-seam fastballs during Mondays outing, according to fangraphs.com, down from 94.9 mph last year and 96 mph in 2012. New York said he received a plasma injection and will rest about two weeks. Parnell then will start a throwing program, and a decision on surgery will be made after that. The Mets already are without sidelined ace Matt Harvey, who is likely to miss the entire season following elbow surgery Oct. 22 on a partial tear of his right ulnar collateral ligament. Several pitchers have torn elbow ligaments this year, including Atlantas Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy, Arizonas Patrick Corbin, Detroits Bruce Rondon, and Oaklands Jarrod Parker. Braves pitcher Cory Gearrin is being examined for a ligament injury. Valverde has 286 saves in an 11-year big league career with Arizona, Houston and Detroit. He was 0-1 with a 5.59 ERA for Detroit last year, converting nine saves in 12 chances before he was cut from the big league roster in mid-June 21. He then had seven saves with a 4.09 ERA in 11 games at Toledo and was released Aug. 7. He got four straight outs Monday in his Mets debut, striking out Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper. The Piartes have won the first two games of this three-game series after three of four in Los Angeles. The trip in New York, where the Pirates lost two of three to the Mets. "We didnt play our best ball in New York and we had to move on from there," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "We got some traction, got some starts we needed and the bullpen is working very efficiently and the offence continues to show up." Cole (6-3) limited the Padres to one run and four hits while striking out six in 5 2-3 innings as the Pirates went to 6-1 in his last seven starts. Pittsburgh won its third straight game and 10th in its last 14. Jason Grilli pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his ninth save. Jesse Hahn (0-1) lasted 2 2-3 innings in his major league debut for San Diego. He allowed four runs on six hits, including the homers by Alvarez and Walker, striking out five with two walks. "It was just good to be out there," Hahn said. "Its what I worked for and its good to get the first one out of the way." The Padres lost for the third consecutive time and sunk a season-high seven games under .500. Cole breezed through the first five innings with only two Padres reaching scoring position. But with two outs in the sixth inning, consecutive singles by Chase Headley, Seth Smith and Yonder Alonso ended Coles night, with Alonso driving in Headley to pull the Padres to within 4-1. Jared Hughes relieved Cole and got Jedd Gyorko on a grounder to second to end the rally. "I had good stuff tonight and stuck around long enough to win but I wasnt very effective at all with a four-run lead," Cole said. "That was pretty frustrating and I uncharacteristically ran out of stuff at the end." He retired 10 straight at one point and only two Padres get into scoring position over the first five innings. Alvarez doubled the Pirates lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning, hitting a fastball over the right-field fence for a two-run homer. Alvarezs 11th home run on the year scored Russell Martin, after he opened the inning with a walk. Hahn gave up two more hits, to Jordy Mercer -- his sixth in seven at-bats -- and Josh Harrison, before being lifted for Jason Lane. Walker became the eighth different Pirates player to hit their last eight home runs when he connected in the third inning for his 11th of the season. Walkers two-run, opposite-field blast to left came off Hahns curveball. "It was easier the second time around to see what he wanted to do," Walker said Once Hahn exited, Lane worked 3 1-3 perfect innings in his first major league appearance since Oct. 1, 2007, and first as a pitcher. Lane switched to pitching after 497 games as an outfielder. "Jason did a great job," Padres manager Bud Black said. "Just what we needed." With Hahn and Lane making their major league debuts as pitchers, it was first time since Sept. 4, 1971 that two Padres did that on the same day. NOTES: Padres RHP Andrew Cashner could start as soon as Saturday against the Nationals. Cashner will test his mending elbow in a Wednesday side session before getting the OK for Saturday. . LHP Eric Stults was placed on bereavement leave after the death of his grandmother. He isnt expected to miss a start. . OF Carlos Quentin was out of the lineup but is expected to start on Wednesday; he struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth. . Pirates OF Starling Marte, hitless in his previous 17 at-bats, didnt start. "Its been hard sledding for him," Manager Clint Hurdle said. Marte struck out as a pinch hitter in the seventh. ... RHP Stolmy Pimentel (sore right shoulder) will pitch three innings for Class A Bradenton on Friday. ... Padres RHP Ian Kennedy (4-6, 3.42) faces Pirates LHP Francisco Liriano (1-5, 4.62) in Wednesdays finale of the three-game series. Darqueze Dennard Jersey . - The Baltimore Ravens have hired Steve Spagnuolo to be their secondary coach and assistant head coach.CHICAGO – Less than three hours before first pitch, holding court with the media in his cramped office at U.S. Cellular Field, manager John Gibbons reclined in his office chair, picked up his lineup card and smirked. "Looks much better, dont it? Looks much better." Edwin Encarnacion was back after a 33-game absence with a strained right quadriceps. His return came two games and three days after Adam Linds, who missed 28 games with a fractured right foot. Now is the time. Now is the time for the Blue Jays to emerge from a funk which has seen the club go 3-9, scoring only 30 runs in the clubs first 12 games of August. The bodies you see are the bodies they will have the rest of the way, barring injury. There will be additions, if not a waiver claim or an unforeseen trade, come September 1 when the rosters expand to as many as 40 players. Ryan Goins, optioned out when Lind returned and Anthony Gose, whos Buffalo bound to make room for Encarnacion, will certainly be back. There will be others, too, including possibly left-handed pitching prospect Daniel Norris, whos climbed each step of the ladder and is throwing lights-out baseball with the Bisons. The key is Encarnacion. That he missed one day short of six weeks and still sits tied for seventh in baseballs home run race, with 26 and having only just been passed by the Cubs Anthony Rizzo and the Angels Mike Trout, is an indication of the season hes having. So are his career highs in OPS (.959) and OPS+ (162). The slugger hit a first-pitch grand slam in his first at-bat for Buffalo on Wednesday night. "I was surprised the way I was seeing the pitches, Ive been seeing the pitches good in the four games in the Minor Leagues," said Encarnacion. "I was thinking it was going to be different with my timing and I saw the ball good right now and my timing is good. Well see now, here." Encarnacion started Friday nights game as the designated hitter. He said hes ready to play first base. Im almost 100 per cent. Im just going to take a couple of more days to be 100 per cent but Im ready to play," he said. "I dont feel any pain right now, I played four games down there and I feel great, no problem." "Hell have to play a litttle bit of first base, but when hes running hell be guarded a little bit," said Gibbons.dddddddddddd "Cant do anything stupid." The Jays entered Fridays play three games back of Seattle and Detroit for the American Leagues second wild card spot. Toronto must sweep the White Sox in order to avoid losing ground on any individual day this weekend because the Mariners are visiting the Tigers. "Weve got a chance," said Lind. "Were definitely good enough to be in the playoffs, but that doesnt mean anything, youve got to go out and win games." Lind, who along with Casey Janssen has been a Blue Jay since 2006, was asked why he thought this team could give him his first crack at playoff ball.  "We were in first place for a couple of months," said Lind. "Some things fell apart but thats going to happen over the course of a season this long but were solid everywhere. Good staff, good bullpen, good lineup. We dont really have a great piece to anything but were solid across the board. Usually when that happens youre good enough to make the playoffs." The decision to send out Gose is three-fold: first, hes gone to Buffalo on option, which means he can be recalled in 10 days. Hes an outfielder and after Ryan Goins was sent out, the Jays had Gose and Reimold and only one backup infielder. Also, if one considered struggling Juan Francisco a candidate to be sent out, hed first have to clear irrevocable waivers. By keeping him on the 40-man roster, the Jays assure a full allotment of inventory come September 1. Gibbons acknowledged the threat of Franciscos power coming off the bench is worth it to keep him in the fold. "I will say the last couple weeks hes had his struggles," said Gibbons. "But hes also thrown some decent at-bats together. We need him to get going, too, theres no question about that. (With EE & Lind coming back) we can slide him down a little bit and hope he catches a few of em." If the Blue Jays are to be playing meaningful games in a month, they must salvage this road trip in its final two legs, Chicago and Milwaukee. As far as the lineup goes, what you see is what you get from here on out. Youre about to find out if its good enough. Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. This week, they discuss the NBA Draft Lottery, the Redskins name, Donald Sterling, and fights in the playoffs. Dave Feschuk, Toronto Star: My thumb is down to the NBA Draft Lottery, which once again rewarded one of the worst franchises in pro sports with another No. 1 pick. Im talking about the Cleveland Oilers, I mean the Cleveland Cavaliers. Or, same thing. And same question: how many more Canadians have to suffer thanks to a dated draft model that rewards incompetence? Well, probably one more. Chances are good Cleveland will use the pick to select Canadas Andrew Wiggins next month. Third time in four years theyll pick No. 1. Theyve also got Canadas Anthony Bennett and Tristan Thompson in the lottery, Not to mention Kyrie Irving. And howve they been doing? Theyve averaged 26 wins the past three years. Hey, these are the guys who tanked for LeBron James and couldnt figure it out. The NBA needs to look hard at tank-proof alternatives to the lottery. They might not save the worst franchises from themselves, but they might save the best players from having to play for them. Gary Lawless, Winnipeg Free Press: My thumb is down to the Washington foot-draggers. Its down to the 50 senators who tried to make political hay out of this sad and tired situation after years of slurping martinis in luxury suites watching the football team not to be named here. Now theyre offended? What changed? Certainly not their moral stance but only the winds of public opinion. Its down to the NFL, who pretends the use of a racial slur is ok because its been used for so many years. Down to Daniel Snyder, who profits from said slur and ignores his own role in the spread of racism. NBA players were outraged when Donald Sterlings racism was laid bare. NFL players should take the opportunity to halt another affront. Demand change, NFLers. Rid your league of this slur and shame Snyder, Roger Goodell and the rest of the leagues owners to enact change. Steve Simmons, SUN Media: My thumb is up to Donald Sterling, yes up, to that old, disgraceful bigot who is barely hanging on to the Los Angeles Clippers, for apparently conceding defeat. Or what certainly seems from the outside like defeat. Far be it for the cloudy-minded Sterling to see clearly but ESPN has reported that Sterling has agreed to allow his wife, Shelly, to negotiate a sale of the team, which is exactly what the NBA wants. The quicker Sterling goes away, frankly, the better. The sooner the Clippers are sold, the happier NBA players will be. Should the team be sold for $1 billion, which is possible, the Sterlings would be taxed more than $328 million on the sale. It would be an expensive ending, but ending this is where the NBA wants to be. Dave Naylor, TSN Radio 1050: My thumb is up to the New York Rangers Derek Dorsett and the Montreal Canadiens Brandon Prust for reminding us what we havent been missing for most of these Stanley Cup Playoffs: fights. The tilt between Prust and Dorsett during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final was the first fight of the playoffs since Round 1 and the first since the calendar turned to May. In fact, there were 2,113 minutes of great playoff hockey played without a single fight. Which only proves that fighting is meaningless when it comes to winning hockey games, because if it was meaningful, coaches would send their players out do it more. When the games matter most. That would be the playoffs. Shaquem Griffin Jersey . Spains victory rendered Frances 3-0 win against Finland meaningless as Spain needed just one point to secure passage to Brazil. Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema scored either side of Joona Toivios own-goal as France advanced to the playoff among the eight best second-place finishers. Dontae Johnson Jersey . Watch the game live on TSN and TSN GO at 9pm et/6pm pt. Serge Ibaka returned to the Thunder lineup from a calf injury that was supposed to sideline him for the remainder of the postseason and the results were sparkling. http://www.officialseattleseahawksfootba...y-womens.K. Subban has picked the right time of the year to go on an offensive tear. Tedric Thompson Jersey .Tzavelas opened the scoring in the 11th and Pereyra added another in the 51st. Emmanuel Kone pulled one back in the 80th and Levadiakos missed several chances to level in the last 10 minutes. Alex McGough Jersey . And former Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson certainly knows his pain. "Its pretty hard to coach there without allowing some of these things to kind of affect you," Wilson told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun in his ESPN. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Takuma Sato won the pole at St. Petersburg for Sundays season-opening IndyCar Series race, where Tony Kanaan will make his debut in his new Target/Chip Ganassi Racing ride starting alongside him on the front row. Sato circled the street course in 1 minute, 0.01 seconds Saturday in the rain-delayed qualifying session to put his A.J. Foyt Racing entry out front. It was a stellar debut for Honda and its new twin turbo engine. "Its a fantastic day. I cant really ask any more for the start of the season," Sato said. "A.J. said Very well done, and he was very happy, and making him happy is a very difficult thing. So Im pleased." Sato also praised Honda Performance Development, which struggled mightily in this race a year ago. He said having the engine ready early in the off-season allowed his team to do needed testing in advance of the opener. "Last year, my first test was the end of February with the team," he said. "Its a very short time to prepare. But this year, really the winter testing started from December, so effectively more than two months ahead of what we were last year." Tony Kanaan qualified second, 0.2951 seconds behind the Japanese driver. Kanaan, the defending Indianapolis 500 winner, replaced Dario Franchitti during the off-season following Franchittis forced retirement from injuries suffered in an October crash. His first qualifying session with his new team led to Kanaans best starting spot at St. Pete since 2010. Its the first time he advanced to the final Fast Six round of qualifying at this course in three years. It could bode well for Kanaan, who improved seven spots to finish fourth a year ago when he drove for KVSH Racing. "Its just qualifying. Youve still got to make it to turn one (Sunday)," Kanaan shrugged. "I think it has been like three years since I have been in the top six. It feels really good, I cant thank the Target Chip Ganassi Racing guys enough. A lot of people made a lot of comments over the years because we struggled so much in qualifying in street and road courses and nobody was counting on that. I like to be the element of surprise." Ryan Hunter-Reay was third and followed by Will Power, who had won the polee the last four years.dddddddddddd Defending IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon was fifth and Marco Andretti rounded out the Fast Six. Juan Pablo Montoya failed to advance out of his group in his first qualifying session in IndyCar. He returned to open wheel this year to drive for Roger Penske after seven seasons in NASCAR with Chip Ganassi. Hell start 18th in the 22-car field. "The biggest problem for the (car) was the last corner, for some reason. I just couldnt come off that corner and get the car to turn," Montoya said. "Sato was in front of me and I would lose everything to him right there. It is what it is. I havent driven in wet conditions in a long time and we never had an opportunity to do it in testing. "I dont think were that far off. Im still getting acclimated. My team is still getting acclimated to me. If that process was complete we would be a lot better. We are definitely making progress." The qualifying session was delayed more than three hours because a heavy rainstorm drenched the course and forced the race promoter to clear the grandstands and ask fans to seek shelter in various locations around the temporary street circuit. Fans huddled inside the parking garage that serves as the garage for many teams, and at least 12 drivers passed the time by posing for a "selfie" photo similar to the star-studded one Ellen DeGeneres took at the Oscars. When the qualifying session did begin, the first group was slowed by several red flags. It infuriated Sebestien Bourdais, who replaced Kanaan at KVSH Racing and is hoping for a strong debut in his hometown race. But Bourdais waited late into the session to go out onto the course, and the red flags limited him to just one qualifying lap. Hell start 13th. "This is a joke," he grumbled. "If we are going to qualify, we at least have to have a fair shot, and we didnt. It wasnt much of a qualifying session. Because of the track conditions we waited to go out to make sure that we had room in case something happened, so everyone else got in a lap before the first red flag. "When we went back out I got one lap at speed before the second red flag. We were too conservative and I feel bad for the crew."
