Is Delanie Walker being ruled out for the Season a Good Thing for Marcus Mariota’s Development? First off Womens Jonnu Smith Jersey , I must be clear. In no way do I feel Delanie Walker being out for the season is a good thing. Now, if you’re still here after the reading the first twenty words - thank you.Walker is hands down QB Marcus Mariota’s favorite and most reliable target. The chemistry the two have established has taken years. Mariota is more in sync with Walker than any other player on the roster. That is a given. The offense as a whole will miss Walker’s play-making ability, offensive production and radiating intensity. His skill-set is unmatched and OC Matt LaFleur knows that he lost a crucial offensive weapon - as does the rest of the team. However, Mariota is now forced to evolve and progress as a quarterback in arguably the most uncomfortable way possible. His safety blanket is out for the season. Training WheelsThe new offensive system still has the training wheels on as Mariota and company are still trying to work out the kinks. Walker served as an additional set of training wheels. As the season progresses, Mariota will not have the luxury of finding Walker during moments where his hesitancy kicks in or play-processing stalls. He’ll be forced to look elsewhere. With WR Rishard Matthews still getting up to speed with the new offense and in football shape, Mariota’s second most reliable target will not be able to be his go to guy - at least not yet. LaFleur, as some expected, dialed up some WR Corey Davis plays early. Davis was targeted a lot in Miami - as a number one receiver should be. With Walker out of the picture and Matthews still behind the curve, Davis will see more targets and have more opportunities to become who the team expects him to be.Uncomfortable a Necessity Change should be uncomfortable. In Mariota’s case Womens Taywan Taylor Jersey , changing his Pro Bowl tight end to a second year player is just that. For most quarterbacks in the league, having a reliable tight end is essential to building and extending offensive drives. Having a Pro Bowl tight end is much sweeter because - on top of having the chain-mover - there is always an opportunity to score points through a play making tight end. Saying it will be hard for Mariota to adjust to life without Walker is a huge understatement. Fortunately, Mariota’s showed through media pressers that he believes in his guys on the roster. Constantly, Mariota expresses how grateful he is for the skill-players on the team. He displays an air of confidence will motivate his guys in a Walker-less offense. It may be painful to watch over the course of the next few weeks as Walker not easy to replace. At least, not by one player. But, replacing Walker’s total production may not be out of reach. RB Dion Lewis doesn’t play tight end, but he proved he can be a big time contributor on offense. Like Walker, he is a chain-mover and a play-maker. He may even be a tone-setter. The rapport Mariota develops with Lewis will be fun to watch this season.Does Evolving Mean Winning? No. That’s the simple answer. Mariota evolving as a player and absorbing/executing a new offensive system could happen with the team still losing games. The more the seasons moves forward, the more chances Mariota will have to build relationships with second year weapons. Davis Curley Culp Jersey White , Smith and Taywan Taylor are all second year options that Mariota must use. Even Tajae Sharpe could be considered a second year option due to missing all of last season. Mariota’s chemistry building will be a work in progress and learning a new offense along the way will not make matters easier. But, it could make Mariota better in the long-haul. If Mariota can move past his most recent injury (which, by most accounts, he will) his evolution starts immediately. LaFleur will continue to adjust the offense to minimize the loss of production Walker would have provided by finding ways to get production elsewhere. Mariota will be a key in helping out with that process.Matthews is probably a few weeks away from providing the offensive impact he would have if fully healthy. That will aid in the amount of “trial and error” moments there are for Mariota and his young set of pass catchers. The running backs will be leaned on heavily during the first half of the season and both proved to be effective. As the offense itself evolves, so will Marcus. It just may be a little painful to watch. The long-term results could outweigh the short-term success. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee cornerback Malcolm Butler has been cleared from the NFL’s concussion protocol and is expected to play Sunday when the Titans host the New York Jets.Butler suffered a stinger in Monday night’s 34-17 loss to the Houston Texans, and he was limited on Wednesday and Thursday while in the concussion protocol. Butler practiced fully Friday.“Malcolm cleared protocol, so he should be available,” coach Mike Vrabel said after practice.Butler Brett Kern Jersey White , who signed a five-year, $61 million contract in the offseason, has been inconsistent this season and been used recently as the third cornerback with Adoree’ Jackson and Logan Ryan starting.“My mental toughness has been tested to the fullest (this year), but I think I’ve handled it and I think I’ve responded,” Butler said. “I’m not giving in. I’m still working hard and playing hard and I’m going to finish strong.”Only safety Dane Cruikshank (knee) and running back David Fluellen (knee) did not practice Friday and are out against the Jets.

More honors for Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick The National Football League today announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2. This is the second consecutive NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award for Fitzpatrick. Against the Philadelphia Eagles Chandler Catanzaro Jersey , Fitzpatrick completed 27-of-33 passes (81.8 pct.) for 402 yards (12.18 yards per attempt), with four touchdowns and one interception, compiling a passer rating of 144.4. Fitzpatrick, who threw four touchdowns in Week 1 against New Orleans, is just the third player in NFL history to throw at least four touchdowns in each of his team’s first two games of the season, joining Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes (2018) and New England’s Drew Bledsoe (1997). He also joins New England’s Tom Brady (2011) and Carolina’s Cam Newton (2011) as the only players in NFL history to record at least 400 passing yards in each the first two games of the season. He is the first NFL quarterback to throw for at least 400 yards in consecutive games since Philip Rivers in 2013.Fitzpatrick is the third player since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger to record consecutive games with 400 yards passing and four touchdowns, joining Miami’s Dan Marino (12/2/84 vs. L.A. Raiders-12/9/84 at Indianapolis) Tennessee’s Billy Volek (12/13/04 vs. Kansas City-12/19/04 at Oakland). He is the first player since the merger to do so in the first two games of the season. He is the only player in NFL history to throw for at least 400 yards and four touchdowns in each of the first two games of the season. Fitzpatrick’s 151.5 passer rating is the highest mark through two games since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger (minimum 40 pass attempts). Fitzpatrick is the first player in the NFL to post consecutive games with a passer rating of 140 or higher since 2015 (Seattle’s Russell Wilson, 11/29/15 vs. PIT-12/6/15 at MIN). He is the first player in Buccaneers history to do so. Fitzpatrick threw two 75-yard touchdowns against Philadelphia. He is the first player in franchise history to record multiple touchdown passes of 75 yards or more in the same game and the first player to do so since Week 1 of 2017 (Alex Smith Jason Pierre-Paul Jersey , at New England, 9/7/17). He has four touchdown passes of 50+ yards through the first two games of the season, tying N.Y. Jets QB Joe Namath (1972) for the most 50+ yard touchdown passes through the first two games of the season in NFL history. Fitzpatrick joins Josh Freeman (Weeks 5 & 9, 2010) and Brad Johnson (Weeks 9 & 14, 2002) as the only players in team history to earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week multiple times in the same season. He is the first ever player in franchise history to win NFC Player of the Week in consecutive weeks. This is Fitzpatrick’s seventh career Offensive Player of the Week award, having earned the honor twice this season as well as with the St. Louis Rams (Week 12, 2005), the Houston Texans (Week 13 Peyton Barber Jersey , 2014) and the New York Jets (Weeks 14 & 16, 2015; Week 2, 2016).This report comes courtesy of the Buccaneers Communications Department. Safety Keith Tandy, cornerback Josh Robinson and long snapper Garrison Sanborn were among 32 players let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the final cuts of training camp.In addition, the Bucs will place quarterback Jameis Winston on the reserve/suspended list and move linebacker Kendall Beckwith from the active/non-football injury list to the reserve/non-football injury list while trimming the roster to the season-opening limit of 53 players.Winston will miss the first three games of the season after violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Beckwith is eligible to return to the active roster following Week 6.Meanwhile, linebackers Devante Bond and Riley Bullough were placed on injured reserve. Cornerback Amari Coleman and tackle Cole Gardner were waived injured in moves announced Saturday. There were no real surprises among 29 players waived, including third-string quarterback Austin Allen, a rookie from Arkansas. The others included: receivers Bobo Wilson Ryan Smith Jersey , Donteea Dye, Ervin Philips and Bernard Reedy; offensive lineman Cole Boozer; cornerbacks Javien Elliott and Marko Myers; defensive tackles Nathan Bazata and Adam Reth; linebackers Nigel Harris and Eric Nzeocha; defensive ends Demone Harris and Evan Perrizo; guard Ruben Holcomb; tight end Austin Johnson; offensive tackles Jarron Jones, Givens Price, Brad Seaton and Jerry Ugokwe; defensive lineman Davonte Lambert; safeties Josh Liddell and Godwin Igwebuike; tight ends Tanner Husdon, Matt Weiser and Austin Johnson; running backs Dare Ogunbowale and Devine Redding; and long snapper Drew Ferris.

Report: Patriots working on a trade
Posted by: laiyongcai92 - 05-24-2019, 08:16 AM - Forum: Artist's corner - No Replies

Report: Patriots working on a trade for Josh Gordon Fooch’s update: The trade is complete. Per Adam Schefter Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey , the Patriots are trading a fifth round pick to Cleveland. If Gordon isn’t active for 10 games, the Patriots get back a late-round pick from Cleveland. The New England Patriots have a struggling wide receiver corps, but they might be adding some serious potential to the group. The Patriots are talking to the Cleveland Browns about a trade for wide receiver Josh Gordon, per NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport. The Browns announced on Sunday that they planned on releasing Gordon. That was viewed by most as a way to spark some trade discussions. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch told local media on Sunday the 49ers had inquired about Gordon and were doing their due diligence on him.It is not surprising the 49ers would not end up pulling the trigger on a deal. The wide receiver depth chart has a lot of questions, but there is talent to build around. Josh Gordon would likely be an upgrade over some members of that group, but the team seems comfortable moving forward with them. And given the issues Gordon has staying on the field, the 49ers likely decided the risk was not worth the potential reward. The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants both lost in Week 8, leaving the top of the 2019 NFL Draft order the same. Both teams are 1-7, and the Giants hold the tiebreaker edge due to strength of schedule. They are followed by the 1-6 Oakland Raiders and then 2-6 Arizona Cardinals. The top pick in the draft always holds at least a little bit of premium value. There is not always a clear-cut No. 1 pick, but you can do big things with the pick regardless. This year, edge rusher Nick Bosa and quarterback Justin Herbert are among the players in the running for the No. 1 overall pick.Bosa entered the season viewed by many as the clear No. 1. He suffered a core muscle injury early in the season, and announced he will not be returning once healthy. He is instead beginning his preparations for the 2019 NFL Draft. He could get back on the field in time for bowl season, so this is not a long-term concern.Bosa could still go No. 1, but if the Giants end up with the No. 1 overall pick Colin Kaepernick Jersey , quarterback Justin Herbert could end up being the pick. The Giants do not seem interested in assessing reserve quarterback Kyle Lauletta, and Herbert’s draft stock is rising. The Giants could decide Bosa (or someone else) is the clear better option or could deal away the pick for a treasure trove of picks, but Herbert seems a strong bet to be the pick. For the 49ers, this bodes well if they continue losing. They face the Giants in two weeks, so this could be settled even more by then. However, if they end up at the No. 2 pick behind the Giants, they could have a great chance at landing Bosa. There could be a host of great options, even if somebody leapt them to get Bosa at No. 1. SB Nation’s Dan Kadar put together his latest 2019 NFL mock draft, and he has Herbert and Bosa going No. 1 and No. 2. His top five rounds out with Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, LSU cornerback Greedy Williams, and Ole Miss offensive tackle Greg Little.Right now, ideally we’d see the 49ers land Nick Bosa to beef up a woefully inconsistent pass rush. He would boost that group in part because it would also open things up more in the middle for their bevy of first round pick defensive tackles.

  Tedric Thompson Jersey

Mora as Seattle Seahawks head coach. His incompetence led to a quick firing, as well as general manager Tim Ruskell’s resignation prior to Mora’s departure, and that’s how Seattle ended up with the wildly successful HC/GM combo of Pete Carroll/John Schneider*.* Longtime FG members may recall when they didn’t like either hire and considered the relationship as akin to Queen/Prime Minister. We were silly. As we near the 2019 NFL Draft, I figured it’s time to re-examine what proved to be Ruskell’s final draft as Seahawks GM. Yes, his first pick really sucked, but it wasn’t all that awful!Round 1, 4th overall - Aaron Curry, LBFans may recall that the former Wake Forest linebacker was hailed as the “safe pick” and a “can’t miss” prospect. There is no such thing as a “safe pick” and that is probably my most loathed phrase among draft pundits. Tim Ruskell gave Curry the biggest non-quarterback rookie contract in NFL history. He proceeded to be not even mediocre for his 35 games played from 2009-2011. Curry routinely found himself out of position, blowing his assignments, taking poor angles, missing tackles, and eventually the Seahawks traded him to the Oakland Raiders midway through the 2011 season. He is one of the biggest draft busts in Seahawks history, and given how well the Seahawks drafted linebackers such as Lofa Tatupu, Leroy Hill, Bobby Wagner, and K.J. Wright, he stands out even more for his incompetence. The Seahawks did not NEED a linebacker, but in fairness to Ruskell, the top-half of the 2009 draft was low-key pretty crummy. Other available options included Mark Sanchez, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Andre Smith, Eugene Monroe, some mediocre WR named Michael Crabtree, and Aaron Maybin. There was also B.J. Raji, whom I reckon could’ve been a tad better than Colin Cole.Round 2 Womens Bobby Wagner Jersey , 49th overall - Max Unger, OLSeattle traded out of the second-round (more on that later), but then traded back into it by giving up its 2009 third- and fourth-round selections to the Chicago Bears for pick #49. Max Unger started out at guard and was objectively lousy, then missed almost all of 2010 due to injury, but he eventually became Seattle’s center. Unger rose up the ranks as one of the NFL’s best offensive lineman, and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2012. Unger had injury problems in 2013 and 2014 before being traded to the New Orleans Saints for Jimmy Graham. Unger was a Pro Bowl choice in 2018 and has only missed one game since joining New Orleans.Unger was a valuable if historically brittle member of the Seahawks’ o-line, and this was Ruskell’s lone long-term quality selection in the draft.Round 3, 91st overall - Deon Butler, WRRuskell traded with the Philadelphia Eagles to get back into the third-round to get Penn State’s Deon Butler. Unfortunately, Butler never found his footing in Seattle, showing occasional flashes of promise in 2010 but ultimately ceding his starting spot on the roster to Ben Obomanu. In garbage time against the San Francisco 49ers, Butler caught a touchdown pass and broke his leg in the process. Despite the obvious shattering of his leg shown on the replay, FOX analyst Brian Billick still hoped it was just a cramp.Butler only appeared in four more games before being cut in 2012, and he never played another down in the NFL. His final tally included 57 catches for 611 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ruskell’s eye for young wide receiver talent was pretty damn uninspiring. We would later find out that anything to do with the Seahawks and someone named “Butler” would produce undesirable results.Round 6, 178th overall - Mike Teel, QBFor a brief moment in time, Rutgers football was actually great. Mike Teel was at the helm for a three-year stretch that saw them go 27-12 in the regular season, and 3-0 in bowl games. At the time when Matt Hasselbeck was hurt/performing poorly and Seneca Wallace was running out of bounds for self-sacks, there were some Seahawks fans who wanted to see what Teel could do — playoffs were out of reach by early December. Teel never saw the field and was waived in May 2010. He’s now coaching his high school alma mater in New Jersey, having never thrown an NFL pass.Round 7, 245th overall - Courtney Greene, SI honestly don’t even remember this dude. Evidently he also went to Rutgers, but he never made the Seahawks’ 53-man roster. Greene did play three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, ending his NFL career in 2012. Round 7, 247th overall - Nick Reed Womens D.J. Fluker Jersey , DEThe greatest of all-time.Round 7, 248th overall - Cameron Morrah, TEMorrah only had 27 targets, snagging 16 balls for 194 yards and no touchdowns in regular season play. He also had 4 catches for 64 yards in the playoffs, including a near-touchdown against the New Orleans Saints. He didn’t play another game after 2011.Now while the actual player selections may have averaged out to be a net negative, the biggest positive was clearly Ruskell’s decision to trade the 37th overall pick to the Denver Broncos for Denver’s 2010 first-round pick. The Broncos chose Alphonso Smith, a 5’9” cornerback out of — wait for it — Wake Forest. Smith was traded to the Detroit Lions in 2010 for Dan Gronkowski, and was out of the NFL after 2012.Thanks to a total collapse from 6-0 to 8-8 and missing the playoffs, the Broncos’ first-round pick went from the 20-32 range all the way down to #14. Seattle used that pick on Earl Thomas III, whom unfortunately may officially be done with the Seahawks when free agency starts next week. Nevertheless, he will go down as one of the greatest Seahawks of all-time, and a future Pro Football Hall-of-Famer. You can thank Tim Ruskell for that... and also be mad at him for pretty much everything else. Seattle punter Michael Dickson took the snap and drifted across the back of the end zone, content to take a safety in the final minutes with his team up by 14.When nobody came all that close to him, he ran 9 yards for a first down. That was the final indignity for the Detroit Lions in a 28-14 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday. Detroit had won three of four and looked like a team that was making progress, but the Lions gave their home crowd little to cheer about against Seattle, falling behind in the second quarter and then making too many mistakes to rally."Had a little bit of success early in the game, but doesn't matter," Detroit coach Matt Patricia said. "We've got to stay focused for the entire game and play 60 minutes. As the head coach, that's my job."Detroit turned over the ball three times and was outrushed 176-34. The latter stat was significant because the Lions added defensive tackle Damon Harrison during the week in a trade with the New York Giants.Detroit's first turnover came immediately after Seattle tied the game at 7 in the second quarter. Ameer Abdullah fumbled on the ensuing kickoff return, and the Seahawks quickly took the lead.Down 28-14 in the fourth, the Lions crossed midfield with plenty of time remaining, but quarterback Matthew Stafford had to scramble a bit and lost the ball. Seattle (4-3) recovered that fumble, too.Detroit got the ball back and drove to the red zone, only for Stafford to throw a pass that was intercepted at the 1-yard line."Fumble, I'll have to look at. Obviously I got loose with it and had one hand on it. Should have two. If I have two Byron Maxwell Jersey , probably don't fumble it," Stafford said. "And then the interception, just a bad decision."It was probably the ugliest defeat for the Lions since their 48-17 loss to the New York Jets in the season opener. Detroit has only forced six turnovers all season. The Lions hadn't committed many since that game against the Jets, but the three Sunday were too tough to overcome."We can't have turnovers in any phase. It doesn't really matter," Patricia said. "We're certainly not getting any on defense either, so we're not helping ourselves. So, in general overall, the turnover situation (was) not good enough here today. We have to get more, we have to generate more on defense, and we can't give them up here, special teams or offensively."Both the Lions and Seahawks came into this game at .500, but it didn't look like a very even matchup. Detroit (3-4) is now in last place in the NFC North, with a tough matchup at Minnesota next weekend."I just hope that everybody comes in on Monday locked in. From this day forward, Monday, everybody comes locked in every Monday and getting ready to play," defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois said. "You play this game five to six times before you play it on the actual day. Mentally, physically, you're going to play this game multiple times. I don't know, their focus is killing me, that's the only thing I can think off of my head, that we weren't focused."

TORONTO -- For FIFA and Canadian organizers, next months U-20 Womens World Cup is a test run for the 2015 Womens World Cup. Dontari Poe Jersey . For Canadian coaches, its also a chance to see future and present talent in action. Players on coach Andrew Olivieris under-20 squad, announced Wednesday, who have already featured on John Herdmans senior team include centre backs Kadeisha Buchanan and Rebecca Quinn, fullback Sura Yekka and midfielders Ashley Lawrence and Jessie Fleming. Forward Nichelle Prince made her senior debut in the Four Nations Womens Tournament in China in January 2013, coming off the bench to score against South Korea. Defender Kylie Davis is a veteran of the 2012 U-20 World Cup. For them and their teammates, the U-20 tournament will be a valuable preface to the World Cup if they make that squad -- ensuring they have a taste of what its like to play under the pressure of being the host team. The U-20 tournament is scheduled for Aug. 5-24 in Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal and Toronto. Under Olivieri, Canada went 1-2-0 at the 2012 tournament. The Canadian women failed to advance out of the group stage, thumping Argentina 6-0 before losing 2-1 to Norway and North Korea. The Canadian coach said the 2012 experience has helped shape the preparation for this tournament. With Herdman also serving as high-performance director, consistent coaching approaches at different levels have helped ensure the Canadian women are all on the same page. "Hes been fantastic support the last two years," said Olivieri. Fresh from a July 16-21 camp in Mexico, the Canadian women open the 2014 tournament Aug. 5 at BMO Field with a Group A game against Ghana. They play Finland three days later in Toronto before heading to Montreal for an Aug. 12 date with North Korea. "We know our last match will be an extremely difficult one," Olivieri said of the group play schedule. The opener may be a challenge as well. Ghana made it to the semifinals at the FIFA U-17 tournament in 2012, losing to eventual champion France. The Africans went on to defeat Germany in the third-place match. "They wont be easy," said Olivieri. The Canadians lost to North Korea in the U-17 quarter-finals with the Koreans eventually losing 7-6 to France in a penalty shootout in the final. Such success does not always translate to the next age group, but the U-17 performance of Ghana and North Korea gives the Canadians something to think about. The Finns were the surprise of European qualifying, beating Norway and drawing with Sweden and Germany. "Just to qualify out of Europe definitely signifies they have a quite a bit of quality. It will be quite a difficult match," said Olivieri. It wont get any easier for the Canadian women after pool play, assuming they advance. The top two teams from each pool advance to the quarter-finals, with the Group A survivors taken on likely either the U.S. or Germany from Group B, which also features China and Brazil. The U.S. and Germany have dominated womens soccer at this level, combining to win five of the six previous tournaments. North Korea won in 2006. "We know that our objective going into the tournament is going to be to win a quarter-final. And we have probably the toughest crossover you can ask for," said Olivieri. "But well be ready and well be happy to play Germany or the U.S. or if theres a surprise, Brazil or China. Weve certainly done our work to make sure were as ready as we can be for those matches." The Canadian team will be captained by defender Kinley McNicoll. Kailen Sheridan goes into the tournament as the No. 1 goalie. Olivieri hopes goals will come from both the forwards (Prince and Janine Beckie) and midfielders (Ashley Campbell, Fleming and Lawrence among others). The Americans won in 2012, defeating Germany. The U.S. also won in 2008 and 2002, when it defeated Canada and Christine Sinclair 1-0 after extra time before 47,784 at Edmontons Commonwealth Stadium to claim the inaugural then (under-19) title. Germany won in 2004 and 2010, when it became the only host country to hoist the trophy. Group C is made up of England, Mexico, Nigeria and South Korea while Group D consists of Costa Rica, France, New Zealand and Paraguay. The quarter-finals are shared by all four host cities, with Moncton and Montreal hosting the semifinals. Montreal will stage the final and third-place match. Canada will play Mexico and England in friendlies in advance of the tournament. The two final Canadian cuts were forwards Chelsea Harkins and Sessen Stevens, both from Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite. --- Canadas U-20 Team Goalkeepers: Kailen Sheridan, Clemson University; Marie-Joelle Vandal, Dynamo de Quebec; Rylee Foster, Woodbridge SC. He could have transferred when academic sanctions barred the Huskies from the NCAA tournament his junior season.CHICAGO -- Roy Halladay had trouble gripping the ball in the steamy conditions, Domonic Browns sore right heel started to bother him again and the Philadelphia Phillies just kept plugging away. It turned into the perfect homecoming for Ryne Sandberg. Michael Young had four hits, including a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth inning, and the Phillies rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday in Sandbergs return to Wrigley Field. "Its a good one to get. Sure, down 5-0 out of the chute," Sandberg said. "The guys battled back. Good energy after that. Anytime you rally to come back like that it goes well with the guys. But yeah, extra special." Kevin Frandsen had two hits and scored two runs after entering in the sixth, helping Philadelphia bounce back from Thursdays 11-3 loss to the New York Mets. Chase Utley added a key two-run triple. The Phillies improved to 9-6 since Sandberg was promoted to interim manager when Charlie Manuel was fired on Aug. 16. The Hall of Fame second baseman spent most of his playing career with the Cubs and was cheered all day long in his first trip to Chicago since he was elevated to the top spot in Philadelphia. "The four hits from Young and the home run from Frandsen, I had some flashbacks," Sandberg cracked. Anthony Rizzo and Nate Schierholtz homered for the Cubs, who went 3 for 10 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base. Starlin Castro had two doubles and two RBIs in Chicagos fourth loss in five games. "We cant get a big hit to seal the deal," manager Dale Sveum said. "To add on runs is what you preach. We just couldnt add on." Roger Bernadina used his speed to set up Youngs winning hit. He was hit by a pitch from Kevin Gregg (2-4) with one out, swiped second and raced home when Youngs blooper landed in front of Schierholtz in right field. "Fortunately it found a patch of grass out there," Young said. "Ive faced him a lot over the years and hes got good stuff. The only thing I was really trying to do was keep my approach relatively simple." B.J. Rosenberg (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win and Jonathan Papelbon got three outs for his 23rd save. Utley made a great diving stop and throw on Schierholtzs grounder to second to end the game. The victory wiped away some of the sting of Browns nagging foot problem. The All-Star, who just returned to the lineup Thursday, was lifted in the sixth due to a sore right Achilles and is day to day. The Cubs built a 5-0 lead against a struggling Halladay, but Jeff Samardzija was unable to hold on for his third consecutive victory. Julius Peppers Jersey. Philadelphia scored four times in the sixth after Frandsens sinking liner got past diving centre fielder Junior Lake for a pinch-hit triple. Samardzija finally got out of the inning when Darin Ruf grounded into a double play, but Frandsen lined an 0-1 pitch into the bleachers in left with two out in the seventh, tying it at 5. "It got away from me a little bit, a couple of hits," Samardzija said. James Russell came on with two on and two out and got Utley to fly out to left, closing Samardzijas line. He gave up eight hits and walked two in his worst start since he lasted just 3 1-3 innings in a 12-1 loss at Philadelphia on Aug. 8. Chicago had a chance to go back in front in the bottom half, but Dioner Navarro was thrown out when he tried to score from second on Darnell McDonalds pinch-hit single. John Mayberrys throw from right field bounced a couple times and still beat the lumbering catcher to the plate, drawing groans from the crowd of 27,753. "We cant catch a break today," Navarro said. Halladay made his second start since he had right shoulder surgery in May. The two-time Cy Young Award winner pitched six effective innings in a 9-5 victory over Arizona on Sunday, but he struggled right from the beginning against the Cubs. Halladay said he had trouble holding onto the ball due to the muggy day in Chicago. The gametime temperature was 91 degrees. "After about the fourth inning, you would try to dry it off and it would come right back and would just drip right off," he said. "After that point, it was just kind of hard to hold on to it." Rizzo connected for his 21st homer in the first inning, and Halladay hit consecutive batters in the second. He threw a ball behind Lake during Chicagos three-run fourth, drawing a stare from the rookie outfielder. The right-hander allowed five runs and seven hits in five innings while throwing only 77 pitches. "I had more of an issue holding on to the ball late in the game than anything," he said. "My arm felt good, shoulder felt good, nothing different there." NOTES: Philadelphia announced during the game that it had reached a $12 million, three-year contract with Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. It includes an option for 2017, a signing bonus and performance bonuses. Gonzalez will report to Phillys spring training complex in Clearwater, Fla. ... EAST RUTHERFORD, N. Ian Mahinmi Jersey .J. -- Victor Cruz believes there was a bit of a disconnect between Eli Manning and his receivers in this season where the New York Giants offence failed to live up to the preseason hype. Talking to the media for the first time since having surgery on his left knee Dec. 19, Cruz said that the lengthy negotiations that got him a new contract in July, and fellow receiver Hakeem Nicks decision to work out on his own went a long way in creating the gap between Manning and the receivers. "I think thats the one thing we lacked, was kind of that continuity from a receiver standpoint with our quarterback," Cruz said Friday. "And I want to build that earlier this year, whether he have to set some time apart with the receivers and Eli whenever hes ready and schedule it right so we can build not only on the field but off the field." Cruz, who stood without the aid of crutches, said his knee should be healthy in roughly two months. He intends to take the recovery slowly so he does not come back and play tentatively. The four-year veteran expects to take part in the Giants organized team activities, which started in April this past season. The important aspect this off-season will be working out more with Manning, who has thrown a career-high 26 interceptions. "We want to get to know each other more and stuff like that," said Cruz, who finished the season with 73 catches for 998 yards and four touchdowns. "I feel like there was a little bit of a disconnect there that we want to get back for this football team." Cruz, who was hurt against Seattle on Dec. 15, hopes that Nicks and offensive co-ordinator Kevin Gilbride will both return next season. Nicks, the Giants first-round draft pick in 2009, has had a disappointing fifth season. Heading into the season finale against Washington on Sunday, he has failed to catch a touchdown. He will be a free agent after this season. "Obviously I understand the business side of it, because I just went through that myself," said Cruz, who signed a five-year, $43 million contract extension this summer, causing him to miss this past seasons OTAs. "I understand what he is going through." If Nicks signs with another team, Cruz said he is ready to handle a bigger load. He admits he was disappointed being limited to four TD catches. Gilbride has come under fire because the offence, which has been slowed by multiple injuries on the offensive line, is ranked 30th of 32 in the league. Nicks plans to discuss his future with the Giants next week said. While he said he wants to stay, he added that money might not be the stumbling block in contract talks. "We arent talking money, its bigger than that in my eyes," Nicks said, indicating that he doesnt want to see changes in the offence. The Giants could put a franchise tag on Nicks and have him under contract for another year, but the question is would they do that for a player who did not produce in a walk year. "I understand the business," Nicks said. "There wont be no negative vibe or bad blood whatever they decide." Finishing 2 yards shy of 1,000 yards receiving did not cost him money, Cruz said. "I wish I could go back and get them, but things happen," Cruz said. "When I was on the flight to get my surgery, a fan came up to me and said: Dont worry about those two yards, you still got 1,000 in my book. That sealed the deal for me. I was like, I knew I didnt need them." NOTES: G Brandon Mosley (hand), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder) and TE Adrien Robinson (knee) were declared out for Sundays game. ...Mosley was having surgery Friday on the hand he broke last weekend. Pierre-Paul missed the final five games. RBs Andre Brown and Peyton Hillis are probable after suffering concussions in the last two weeks. Washington Wizards Jerseys . VANCOUVER -- Jordan Harvey didnt quite know what to make of the Vancouver Whitecaps coming into the 2014 campaign. Kirby Puckett Jersey . After a tumultuous off-season that included the teams head coach getting fired -- as well as its best player forcing his way out of town -- the defender wasnt alone. "I had a lot of questions," Harvey said this week. "It was a young team and everything, but we acquired some really quality players. We had that first game (a 4-1 home victory over the New York Red Bulls) and the expectations were huge, but we also saw how high we could reach and the bar was set. "I think we have the consistency, the depth to maintain that." Nearly a third of the way through the season, those characteristics will be put to the test on Saturday when the Whitecaps (4-2-4) host the top team in Major League Soccer at B.C. Place Stadium as the Seattle Sounders (8-3-1) travel north to face their bitter geographic rivals. Watch the game live on TSN2 and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. "Arguably theyre the best team in Major League Soccer at the moment. The league table doesnt lie," said Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson. "Its a good test for us to see where we are. Its a test that Im looking forward to as a coach, and I know my players certainly are. "Theyre a very a good team, but let me tell you, so are we." The Whitecaps enter Saturday with 16 points through 10 games, but just one of their four wins have come against Western Conference opponents -- a trend from last season that Vancouver will have to shake if it wants to return to the playoffs after missing out in 2013. "Its vitally important. Winning any game of football is good, but obviously every time you dont win against a Western team youre losing points and theyre gaining points," said Robinson. "Its very important and we need to make sure that we compete with the Western teams and beat the Western teams. Thats a big focus for us this year because we didnt do it enough last year." The Sounders have 25 points from their 12 games, but will be without midfielder Clint Dempsey, who is away with the U.S. national team as it prepares for the World Cup in Brazil. "Its a test for us because Seattle are where they are," said Robinson. "Weve had a very positive start. Weve still got a lot of work to do, a lot of improving to do, and well continue to do that, whatever the result on Saturday. Its just a marker for us to see where we are." The Sounders have won five of six and are coming off a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes last weekend, while the Whitecaps will have had 10 days off since bowing out of the Amway Canadian Championship semifinals to Toronto FC on May 14. "I think its going to be a game thats going to be a bit open," Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid told the clubs official website. "Theyre a team that likes to counter attack and get forward, so it might open up at certain times during the game." Theres no doubt the Whitecaps have turned heads around MLS ten games into the schedule after a tricky off-season. Robinson was promoted from an assistants role to replace former head coach Martin Rennie in December after a prolonged search, with the Welshman taking over just in time to watch star striker Camilo Sanvezzo refuse to honour the final year of his contract. Undaunted by that setback, Robinson brought in talented fresh faces, including Matias Laba and Pedro Morales and the roster has gelled quickly. "I think weve surprised a lot of people. I dont think weve surprised the dressing room, though," said Vancouver captain Jay DeMerit. "I think the manager has kept the squad that he wants here because he believes that we can be capable of the things weve been doing the first 10 games. "Its up to us to make sure we go beyond that." The veteran defender has been with the Whitecaps since the club joined MLS in 2011 and knows the importance of beating the top teams in the West -- something Vancouver did twice last season against Seattle. "It has to come from us," said DeMerit. "It has to come from the fact that we believe in it and we believe we can do it and do it consistently." While the Sounders will be without Dempsey on Saturday, the Whitecaps will have to be wary of Seattle striker Obafemi Martins, who has five goals and six assists. "Hes a top player. Hes a world-class footballer," said Robinson. "Hes someone who scores goals and thats why hes paid big money. Weve got to make sure we eliminate the service into him and eliminate him on the ball because hes a fantastic player." Apart from its importance in the standings, the game is also Vancouvers first of the season in the regional Cascadia Cup -- a mini-tournament played between the Whitecaps, Sounders and the Portland Timbers. The team with the most points in the games played amongst the three clubs at the end of the season takes the title, which Vancouver did in 2013. "Its like a playoff atmosphere," said Harvey. "You can feel the support, the energy from the fans and its always one that we want to win for them. The Cascadia Cup -- thats some hardware that we want to keep." DeMerit likens the atmosphere to the local derbies he was a part of during his time playing in England. "You get that full atmosphere, that constant hum of chants, that full intensity that comes with that rivalry and that only rivalry games seem to create," said the 34-year-old. "Both sets of fans are very passionate about their clubs and thats what we want. Thats what were trying to build here in North America and in MLS and theres no better example than the Cascadia rivalry." Notes: The Whitecaps are 3-1-1 at home so far this season, while the Sounders have the same record on the road. ... Seattle and Portland tied the only other Cascadia game played so far this season 4-4. Each team plays six games in the competition. The Whitecaps visit the Timbers on June 1. ... Vancouver announced Thursday that striker Darren Mattocks has obtained a green card in the U.S., freeing up an international roster spot. ... Harvey and DeMerit, who are both American, said they were surprised that Los Angeles Galaxy star Landon Donovan was left off the U.S. World Cup team. Said Harvey: "Thats a crazy decision. Im really shocked by it. Hes a quality player -- best U.S. player in history." Minnesota Twins Jerseys . It took five games, but the Celtics finally helped Stevens earn his first NBA victory. "Im going to celebrate for a whole 12 minutes, and then Im going to start watching Orlando and trying to figure them out," the first-year Celtics coach said after Boston beat the Utah Jazz, one of the leagues other winless teams, 97-87 on Wednesday night. Rod Carew Jersey . His Chicago Blackhawks teammates werent shocked when he found it. Kanes career has been defined by his brilliance in the Blackhawks biggest moments, and his tiebreaking goal with 3:45 to play in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals will rank among the best. http://www.twinssale.com/customized/ . - Novak Djokovic beat John Isner 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-1 on Saturday to reach the final of the BNP Paribas Open, where hell resume his longtime rivalry with Roger Federer.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Vancouver Canucks hope an upcoming stretch of home games will be enough to get the club into the postseason. That span begins on Saturday night, when the Canucks welcome the Anaheim Ducks to Rogers Arena. The Canucks have been to the postseason in each of the past five seasons, each time going in as champion of the non-defunct Northwest Division. Vancouver has had a tougher go in the new-look Pacific Division, where it sits fifth overall with 79 points. That leaves the Canucks hoping for a wild card spot and it trails the Phoenix Coyotes by five points for the second extra playoff berth. The Coyotes, though, have played one fewer game and play host to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Vancouver does have a point in four straight games. The Canucks opened a quick two-game road trip with a 5-2 win over the Wild on Wednesday, claiming a third straight victory, but dropped an overtime decision the following night to the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs got the winner 55 seconds into overtime. Matt Duchene circled around the left boards to get clear of defenders before firing a pass to the front of the net where Tyson Barrie tipped it home for the win. Yannick Weber and Zack Kassian scored for the Canucks, while Eddie Lack turned away 25 shots in the loss. "We out-played them in the third, but it was not good enough," said Kassian. "We got the point and had a good road trip." The Canucks played both games on the road without leading scorer Henrik Sedin and his status for this contest is unknown because of a lower-body injury. Sedin leads Vancouver with 36 assists and 46 points. Vancouver fell to 16-19-5 on the road with Thursdays loss and will play five straight and six of its final seven games this season at home. The Canucks are 18-11-6 at Rogers Arena on the campaign. Lack is 0-2-1 with a 3.65 ggoals against average in his career versus the Ducks, who have won all three of their games versus the Canucks this season. Max Kepler Jersey. That has pushed Anaheims series winning streak to four straight overall and it also has won seven of the previous 10 meetings. The Ducks have won two straight and four of their last five in Vancouver, a trend they look to continue as they chase the Pacific Division crown. Anaheim is one point back of the first-place San Jose Sharks, who visit Colorado on Saturday afternoon and have played two more games than the Ducks. Anaheim did fail to pull into a tie with San Jose last night as it lost a 4-3 decision to the Edmonton Oilers in overtime. Edmonton had taken two penalties earlier in the overtime, leading to a brief 5-on-3 for Anaheim, but the Ducks took a whistle and the teams wound up skating 3-on-3. With a lot of ice to work with, Edmontons Andrew Ference grabbed the puck in the neutral zone and skated down the middle, winding up for a big blast that ticked off the right post and in with 1:09 left on the clock. Jonas Hiller made just 19 saves in defeat, outdueled by Edmontons Ben Scrivens, who posted 48 stops. "Yeah, he was pretty good tonight," said Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau about Scrivens. "Anytime you get over 50 shots on a goal and you lose, youve got to tip your hat a little bit to the goalie." Nick Bonino, Mathieu Perreault and Patrick Maroon all scored for the Ducks, who had won two straight entering the contest and fell to 4-4-3 in their past 11. Perreault has five goals and three assists over a seven-game point streak. Hiller was making his third straight start and could give way tonight to backup Frederik Andersen. It helps that Andersen has won both of his previous career starts with the Canucks while allowing just two goals on 68 shots. Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of the officiating in the Eastern Conference first round series between the Nets and Toronto Raptors. Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys . Kidd made his comments during a conference call with the media on Thursday. Kidd said its "kind of mind-boggling" that Joe Johnson got so few foul calls in Wednesdays Game 5 loss to the Raptors. "If flopping is the way to go, then we have to maybe play that game," Kidd said. "But Joe is a strong individual and unfortunately, he doesnt flop. He plays and he doesnt complain. But thats why we have officials, for them to make calls." Kidd also called out official Tom Washingtons non-call in the final seconds of Wednesdays game, when Shaun Livingston and DeRozan collided going for a rebound. No foul was called on the play. "I thought Shaun made a heck of a play to come up with the rebound and get fouled right in front of (referee) Tom Washington, but no call was made," Kidd said. "And Dray (Andray Blatche) came up with the ball and his intention was to get the ball to Deron (Williams), who was wide open, and it just didnt work out." Dallas Goedert Eagles Jersey . It was a measure of redemption for Italy after a loss to Spain, also in a shootout, in the semifinals. "The main thing tonight was our character. We showed fantastic character. We never gave up," Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said. This shootout capped an entertaining match at the Arena Fonte Nova, where Alessandro Diamanti scored one goal and set up another for Italy and Edinson Cavani equalized twice for Uruguay. Italy defender Davide Astori opened the scoring in the 24th minute after Diamantis free kick rattled the post and Cavani equalized for Uruguay in the 58th with an angled shot. Diamanti restored Italys lead in the 73rd with another free kick that went in directly but not to be outdone Cavani drew Uruguay level again five minutes later with an equally splendid free kick of his own. Uruguay has now lost seven of eight bronze-medal matches at the World Cup, Copa America and Confederations Cup, including a loss to Germany at the 2010 World Cup. This defeat was surprising, considering that Uruguay appeared to be the fresher squad entering the game. "I told my players before the match, Its Italy, boys, so watch out," Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said. "You cant just go by what you read in the newspapers. Even if they were tired they played a great match. They controlled the ball possession in first half and they made us suffer." For Italy it marked another step forward after finishing runner-up to Spain at last years European Championship. "We still have a long way to go but were on the right road," Prandelli said. In the shootout, the 35-year-old Buffon set the tone by stopping the first shot in the shootout from Diego Forlan, then also saved from Martin Caceres before smothering Walter Garganos effort to end the game. "Today would have been tough if we hadnt had this character," Buffon said. "We showed what were worth down to the end. It would have been upsetting to not win because playing this match two days after the game vs. Spain was very difficult. But we went out with the right spirit." Alberto Aquilani, Stephan El Shaarawy and Emanuele Giaccherini converted for Italy while Mattia De Sciglios shot was blocked bby Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. Michael Bennett Eagles Jersey. "Buffon is a great champion. He plays with a kids enthusiasm," Prandelli said. "He was upset the other night because he wasnt able to save a penalty. And he told the squad this morning that if it goes to penalties today, Dont worry Ill take care of it." Italy was without usual starters Mario Balotelli, Andrea Pirlo and a handful of others and ended with 10 men after Riccardo Montolivo picked up his second yellow card in the 110th minute for a foul on Luis Suarez. Uruguay was at full strength, featuring virtually the same lineup from its 2-1 semifinal loss to Brazil. With an added day of rest, Uruguay had its usual strike trio of Forlan, Suarez and Cavani in place. Still, for the first 90 minutes it was a balanced match featuring numerous opportunities for both sides. With Leonardo Bonucci on the bench after missing the key shot in the shootout loss to Spain, Astori saw his first action in the tournament and he quickly took advantage. After hitting the post, Diamantis free kick deflected off the back of Muslera and Astori was waiting for an easy tap in. However, there were doubts over whether the ball had already gone in when Astori touched it. FIFA first awarded the goal to Diamanti then gave it to Astori at halftime -- making it his first goal for Italy, in his fifth appearance. While Italy appeared content to head into the changing room with a one-goal lead, Uruguay came out energized in the second half and Cavani slotted a shot past outstretched Buffon after being set up by Gargano. Diamantis goal, also his first for Italy, came with a curling free kick from 28 metres (yards) over Uruguays wall and into the right corner beyond the reach of diving goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The lead didnt last long, though, as Cavani then produced a shot over Italys wall that dipped down in under the crossbar with Buffon unable to stop it despite getting his finger tips on it. The two goals gave Cavani 17 in 54 appearances for Uruguay and they also may have boosted his price on the transfer market, as there is speculation he could lead Napoli after leading Italys Serie A with 29 goals last season. In extra time, Uruguay dominated but could not find the target with a series of shots from beyond the area while Italy appeared exhausted. Fortunately for the Italians, Buffon was still alert and made the decisive saves. Denver, CO (SportsNetwork. Vladislav Namestnikov Jersey .com) - Semyon Varlamov stopped all 40 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season, and Nathan MacKinnon added a pair of second-period goals as Colorado posted a 5-0 victory over the Islanders at Pepsi Center. Erik Johnson, Marc-Andre Cliche and Cody McLeod also provided offense for the Avalanche, who closed out the seasons first month by snapping a two-game slide. Chad Johnson was on the hook for all five goals on 23 shots for the Islanders, who have lost four of six. McLeod opened the scoring 2:34 after the opening faceoff, cutting to the front of the crease and tapping home a Matt Duchene centering feed. Colorado effectively put the game away with a three-goal second-period burst. MacKinnon doubled the home advantage with a power-play strike just shy of the 3 1/2-minute mark of the second, Cliche deposited his first goal of the season one second shy of nine minutes played, then MacKinnon added another on a redirection of a Jarome Iginla pass 1:15 later. Johnsons point drive with 6:20 remaining in the contest provided a five-goal margin for the Avalanche. The blistering shot was set up by a right-circle faceoff win by Duchene. Game Notes Varlamov authored his 14th career clean sheet and also reached the 80-win plateau with Colorado ... The Canadians defeated Sweden 9-6 and China 6-4 to finish atop the preliminary-round standings at 10-1. Their execution Thursday was the sharpest of the tournament so far. The games were tight with Homan and her Ottawa Curling Club teammates scoring three in the eighth ends of both. "We were really pushed today," Homan said. "It was great we were able to control the game and stay confident with this team and really nail the lines and make the big shots when we needed them. "We had to fight for our points." Homan will face Switzerlands Binia Feltscher, whose record was 9-2, in Fridays playoff game between the top two seeds. The two countries meet in the 1 vs. 2 Page playoff game between the top two seeds. (TSN, 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt) The winner books a ticket to Sundays gold-medal game. The loser drops to Saturdays semifinal. Canadas lone loss of the preliminary round was to the Swiss. It went so badly for the host country in ends five through eight that they shook hands early Sunday. "That was a little bit of a lopsided game," Homan acknowledged. "We had some misfortune, but I think were a little bit different now. Were going to know the rocks and its going to be on a different sheet and everything so I think it should be a great game." The top four teams advance to the Page playoff. Russias Anna Sidorova, Swedens Margaretha Sigfridsson and South Koreas Ji-sun Kim all finished tied at 8-3. Sidorova will play in Saturday mornings playoff between the third and fourth seeds with the winner advancing to the semifinal. Russias opponent will be the victor of Fridays tiebreaker between the Swedes and South Koreans. Sidorovas missed final shot of a game against the Czech Republic -- a draw -- prevented Russia from finishing 9-2 and playing Canada on Friday. China and Allison Pottinger of the U.S., were just outside playoff contention at 6-5 with Germanys Imogen Oona Lehmann and Anna Kubeskova of the Czech Republic ending their tournaments 3-8. Scotlands Kerry Barr and Denmarks Madeleine Dupont had 2-9 records ahead of Latvias Evita Regza at 1-10. Homan had to win a tiebreaker to get into the final four at last yyears world championship in Riga, Latvia. Walt Tkaczuk Jersey. Canada won their subsequent playoff game before losing the semifinal and then winning the bronze medal. The beauty of finishing in the top two is the loser of Fridays game can still get to the championship game, albeit via a longer route. "We love the one-two game," Homan said. "Theres not much pressure. "Either way weve got a chance at the gold-medal game. Thats what were gunning for now." The Canadians struck a balance between patience and aggression to achieve their No. 1 ranking. The average age of Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle is just shy of 26, but theyre a Canadian womens curling team ahead of the curve when it comes to the big-game experience and the lessons learned in those games. Homan, Miskew and Kreviazuk have been teammates for over a decade. Since graduating from the junior ranks four years ago, they and Weagle have played in three national womens championships -- finishing fourth and winning twice -- two world championships and an Olympic trials. "This team may be young, but weve had so much experience," said Weagle, the oldest at 28. "We realize were a young team and have really ambitious goals. We really want to accomplish them, but at the same token, if you look at a lot of the great curlers in our sport, theyre in their 30s or even their 40s when theyre at the peak of their game." Weagles talent for clearing a road to the rings and Miskews ability to execute big-weight, multi-stone takeouts allows Canada to gamble and takes some pressure off Homan. Kreviazuk banged her broom after a few misses during the preliminary round, but the four curlers have an otherwise business-like demeanour on the ice. "Were patient and were learning all the time and were allowing ourselves to learn," Weagle said. "Were not expecting to be perfect every single shot, but when were not, we want to learn from it. "Often Ill go down and talk to Rachel about my shots and how Im throwing them, if she want me to make an adjustment or if shes going to make the adjustment with the broom. I think thats worked really well for us. We want to make the most shots possible and whatever way we need to do it, its good to take the emotion out and just treat it like business."
